today this dude marched point blank <1m into my face while i was sketching people at an art festival and demanded

dude: DRAW ME me: excuse me? dude: yeah you see all these drawings? put me in there, i’ll make it look good. i know i got a great face. don’t just draw me. colour me too. me: you know you’re gonna have to pay me if you want me to draw you? haha... dude: (sticks chin out and stares down at me)

this guy responded with silence to everything I said. Almost a minute of him standing there, chin out, ignoring, waiting. Unrelenting eye contact, blocking the path in front of me. my back hits a tree when i try to distance myself. am i in a hostage situation at an art crawl? so i flip to the back of my page and think, hey, if i got a subject willing to stay still then alright.. when he sees me start, he keeps sharply whistling at what i assume are his friends behind me, beckoning them. One starts watching over my shoulder, i think, but all my senses have narrowed into the tunnel vision of my drawing.

dude: HEY, HOW’S HE DRAWIN ME? AM I LOOKIN GOOD? passing duo: it’s beautiful! me: (my hand made his nose too big..... and his nostrils are so flared.. oh n o o o there go the eyebrows how am i gonna save this) dude: (breaks pose to leer over my page) what, man. me: (ahhh don’t move! now i can’t see your eyes... i won’t be able to draw them properly in focus!!) dude: you’re drawin me ugly. fuck you, man. me: (drops all honest effort and starts aggressively inking the other eye to make it extra blobby)  i’m just drawin you how i draw    dude: (lumbering away) fuck you. you don’t know what you’re doing.
