Frank met Indira on the train out of Georgia when they were heading to New York. Cobb had tried to get a rise out of her and she turned around and slapped him across the face for a rude remark about the way she dressed

He offered her a place to sit that was well out of Cobb’s way, needless to say she was still annoyed

But then she and Frank started talking

Indira told him about her life before her family moved to the states. They were originally from a small city on the coast of India, but Indy and her sisters had all been sent to a girls’ school/college in Georgia. Her older brothers however had enlisted in the British army, all four were sent to Burma

Frank told her about his life in Chicago, about growing up and how he hoped to go back soon

The more they talked, the closer they grew 

Luz would make a few jokes about it but Frank told him to just shut up (they still had a good laugh)

When they got to England, she and the others showed EVERYBODY what they were made of. The impression that they all made even had the British troops talking

When D-Day finally arrived, the nurses asked to jump with the rest of the Company. Absolutely NO ONE was to know that Rose Co. would jump with Easy

Indira was the first one in the door and the first one out. Frank saw her jump from the plane and panicked when she disappeared into the trees. When he found her about ten minutes after he landed he was relieved

By the time they got to Carentan, she was one of the nurses who helped take care of Tipper

But after, Frank got worried when she told him that she couldn’t see. Her sight came back after a while, but it still scared him. It happened again when they were in Bastogne and he almost had a heart attack

One night they visited each other in a foxhole and talked it over

But when they got to talking, Frank told her how he really felt. They came to realize that they couldn’t live without each other

He came to the aid station after getting shot in the rear. She treated the wound but tried not to laugh

Dike was a total ass to her which pissed Frank off but she found a way to run so many circles around him to the point where he could do nothing about it

“Yes, Frank I know he’s an insufferable twit, but we’re just going to have to put up with it until he ‘accidentally’ runs across the German lines” (Keyword: “Accidentally”) 

They kept pushing on into Austria and when they arrived at the Eagle’s Nest, she and Frank made it official. More good news came soon after when she learned her brothers would be coming home. Bonus: Her family officially became US citizens when the war was over!

When they got back, they went to Utah to meet Indira’s family

Her dad and Frank hit it off right away along with her four older brothers. Her sisters were a totally different story. They had a habit of teasing Frank, but seeing as he had siblings as well he took it in stride

But what was left unsaid that night was the biggest surprise of Indira’s life. Frank had asked her dad for her hand and she was so happy that she could barely get the words out

They had a ceremony from both sides of the world with Frank and Indira’s families in attendance along with Easy

Their wedding was on the last day of Holi and the guys had an absolute blast!!! By the end they were all covered in so many different colored powders that it took two days for them to get it out of their hair and their clothes

Their kids are absolute terrors and when Luz’s kids tag team with them? Forget it, they’re enough to drive Sobel nuts

Despite the hell that they went through

And all the turmoil that came during the war

Frank and Indira are grateful for the life they have and the life they built

Summary: 5 times Rory comforted Tipper......and one time he did the same for her

“R....Rory? Rory?” Tipper sobbed pitifully, the tears streaking unnoticed down his blood soaked face.

“Shhhh,” she soothed, stroking his pitch black hair. “You’re ok.....sweetheart you’re ok.”

Rory dabbed his face with the wet washcloth, carefully working her way around the wounds. Blood ran onto the pure white, staining it an ugly pink as it washed away the grime and thick crimson red. He was so jumpy, trembling and shaking as he lay on the cot where she worked. Panicky, shaky breaths escaped his chest as she gently cleaned his ruined eye. “Shhhh, Tipper it’s ok,” Rory assured him as she brushed a few stray tendrils of hair out of his face.

Weakly, he lifted his arm, his fingertips brushing against her cheek and leaving tiny streaks of blood. “I......I.....”

“Shhhh, rest,” Rory said, placing a kiss on his forehead.

Tipper took a deep, shaky breath as she worked, letting the exhaustion slowly creep up on him before giving in to the numbness of rest.

She felt his thumb brushing softly against her knuckles as he blinked his eyes open, relieved and happy that she was there. Tipper shuddered a little even with the covers drawn over his bandaged legs. Rory gripped his hand tightly as a tired smile crossed Tipper’s sleepy face.

“You’re here,” he murmured.

“Of course I am,” she half laughed. “You think I’d leave you here alone?”

Tipper laughed weakly but he was at ease knowing she was there. Not once, for the rest of the day did Rory’s hand let go of his.

It wasn’t easy standing up, not after months of bed rest and not being able to walk for long. When Tipper’s bare feet hit the cold floors a shiver ran painfully up his legs and back as Rory helped him up.

“Thanks hon,” he said. “Sorry you’ve gotta do this.”

“Ed it’s ok,” Rory assured him. “It’s gotta be done one way or another.”

He gripped her shoulder as he took the first step, the ache in his knees worse than ever but with Rory supporting him, it made a tough situation just a bit easier.

“Ok, can you blink for me?” Rory asked as she cut away the last of the bandages around Tipper’s eye.

Tipper blinked a few times and found that he could still see, though not as well as before. “Can you see?” Rory asked him.

“Yeah,” he replied. “I can see. It’s not as good as it was before but it’s still good.”

Rory was thrilled. Of course she had known that Tippers eyesight wouldn’t be the best, but she was still happy that he was able to see, even if it was only out of one eye. She laughed a little as he leaned in and kissed her cheek. “You’re amazing you know that?” Tipper told her.

“I try,” she replied.

Rory woke with a start in the middle of the night, shaking with terror at the nightmarish scene that had just passed through her mind. Her panicky, shaky breathing woke Tipper right up, yanking him from the calm, still sleep on that hot summer night at their home in Hawaii.

“Rory?” he questioned. “Rory?”

She couldn’t stop as the tears started rolling down her face, her face buried deep in her hands as a shuddering sob escaped her throat. “Aurora?”

Rory lifted her tear streaked face to find Ed sitting upright beside her. “Come here,” he said, drawing her close to him. “Come here, it’s alright. I’ve got you.” 

She leaned her head against his shoulder, still terrified of the nightmare that had played out before her, so vivid and real that she thought she was back in Europe. Rory buried her face in the front of Tipper’s shoulder. “I’m so sorry,” she said, her voice hoarse from the lump in her throat. “I thought we......I thought we were back in Carentan. You were covered in blood and I thought you......”

“Shhh, Rory it’s ok,” Ed murmured. “We’re here.....you and me.”

He gently moved her hand over his heart, holding hers with his own. Rory felt the gentle beat beneath her palm, her fear ebbing away like the high tide and the nightmare fleeing from her mind, leaving her only in the moment.

“You feel that?” Tipper asked her. “I’m right here with you. As long as you can feel it, I’m right here with you.....always.”

(For those of you who are curious as to what inspired this little ficlet, the musical piece is called “Trail of the Angels” or as it is more famously known as “Shifu’s Flute” from Kung Fu Panda. If you guys get the chance please look it up. It’s a beautiful piece of music and I guarantee, you won’t regret it.)

Malarkey had never expected the Bavarian Alps to be this stunning, nor had he expected the village near the Eagle’s Nest to be so busy with villagers coming and going along with the herd of other GIs. Yet there was no sign of his newfound companion. Where the hell she could have gone was a complete mystery to him.

For two days he had wondered if he would ever see her again, her bright eyes and her calm demeanor that had kept so many men from convulsing on the surgical tables at the aid stations. He missed her....deeply. 

I hope she’s still around here.....he thought wistfully as he walked up one of the streets. 

“Young man?” someone asked. “Are you alright?” 

Malarkey looked up to see an elderly woman standing outside one of the shops, her hair a brilliant silver with streaks of white while a small basket hung from the crook of her arm. “Huh? Oh,” Malarkey stammered. “Sorry ma’am. I was just thinking.” 

“Ah,” the woman said. “Thinking of home were you?” 

“No, no I uh.....someone I’m close with.” 

that's maybe the thing that like... okay this isn't a new wonder because it's what everyone basically feels about anyone who found through that war. ordinary men out there doing extraordinary things without like, really much of a thought about it? just because it needed to be done.
