helloo!! hope you’re having a nice evening (or day, depending on when you read this) but a 1920s melb au sounds so fascinating…may i politely ask for a crumb 😁
BAHAHAHA it is an ungodly hour where i am but thank you so much for indulging me!! i was chucking around the idea with a friend of a roaring 20s AU for my silly little mcsweeney/konstas ship since i dabble in melbourne-based history irl and like the original post said one has to have expertise in SOMETHING for a realistic AU and when all else fails... Period Drama go BRRRR
the real head scratcher here is how to relocate two guys very much not based in melbourne down here. it's a tad easier for sammy since there was a Huge wave of greek immigration here starting from WWI, and said war gave us the anzac legend/horror story so we can simply give sweens a different kind of Trauma(TM) and have him ditch brisbane for a fresh start on the whole other end of the country. very normal postwar behaviour
the bones of it all is returning anzac in a strange new town decides to join a local cricket club to use an old passion to take his mind off things, strikes up a friendship/rivalry with plucky young immigrant porter (i have to throw a railway association in everything, my toxic trait) who picked up the game for shits and giggles and is... weirdly good at it?? shenanigans ensue, stories are exchanged, there is mutual healing and swimming in the creek before it was polluted and dancing at this jazz hall that was open on my suburb's main street for like 3 years before the depression happened. steve smith is also the stand in for bradman.
