Boss from Hell & her 2nd-in-Command (intern)
Meredith’s Relationship with Cullen
Since I’ve come to roleplay Joan Ferguson, I’ve really started to wonder just what the mentor/mentee relationship is like between Meredith and Cullen  (especially since unlike Joan & Vera, there’s absolutely no personal/intimate interest involved).
We know Cullen ascended quickly to the rank of Knight-Captain. It seems to be a chosen and inherited position - Meredith inherited Ser Wentworth’s role as Captain after he finally passed away as he elected to have her take his place. Was there someone prior to Cullen’s arrival to Kirkwall? If there was, why did Meredith opt to choose Cullen - a traumatized (young) templar knight who’d barely been in Kirkwall long enough to really familiarize himself with the Circle, etc?
I mean, we can argue that she wanted to mold him into her successor. She was raised in the Chantry from a very young age after losing her only family to a demon that possessed her older sister; she was raised by her saviours, and embodies everything the Chantry wants to see in a Templar. She ascended to power in her mid twenties because of her captaincy, and led the revolt against the former Viscount.
It all comes down to a matter of control; she picked someone she saw as vulnerable so that he would follow her without doubt or question (which he did, right up until the very end, after the Right of Annulment began - and only when Hawke’s life was threatened). Like Joan, Meredith is a manipulator, and having someone so firmly in her court with rank, enables her to get away with the ignorance to the abuses in the Circle, and the incredible persistence and paranoia regarding apostates and blood mages.
I feel that Meredith gave support to Cullen through his transition to Knight-Captain, and entrusted him with responsibilities that may have seemed like a lot, but she did it on faith so that he could prove himself as competent.
It’s interesting to think of this dynamic without the intimate interest that Joan has in Vera. Meredith’s interest is strictly political in that she wants to secure the future of the Gallows by ensuring that her successor is just like her - that he upholds all the work she has done over the last thirty years and continues to rule with an iron fist. She trusts him, but wouldn’t hesitate to ruin him either if he betrayed her (which he does, and which she tries to but in her state of mind, loses to her own power hungry hubris).
Carlisle Cullen was born in London sometime in 1640. He is the second husband of Esme Cullen & the adoptive father of Alice, Bella, Edward, Emmett Cullen & Jasper and Rosalie Hale. He is the founder of the Olympic Coven. Unable to come to terms with murder he found that he could survive off animal blood and he considered this much more humane than drinking the blood of a human. During these first two centuries, Carlisle studied at night, becoming a “nighttime patron of the arts.” As a result of his meticulous studying, Carlisle was able to become a brilliant doctor. After living with the Volturi for two decades, Carlisle moved on to the New World, where he became a doctor and used his skills to help people.
Carlisle’s most prominent personality trait is his compassion, which is what prompted him to practice his diet on animal blood and use his capabilities to help people in need instead of killing them. His peaceful and accepting nature has allowed him to make many friends, ranging from fellow vampires to humans and even werewolves, over the centuries.
Currently, Carlisle is working as a resident physician at the hospital in Forks, Washington, where he resides with his family.
Plots with Carlisle can be found here.
Earnest Cullen (born Earnest Platt) was born in 1895 in Columbus, Ohio. He is the husband of Carine Cullen & the adoptive father of Archie, Edythe, and Eleanor Cullen & Jessamine and Royal Hale. He also had a daughter, Grace, who died at two years old. He is a member of the Olympic Coven. In 1921, after losing his daughter, Grace, Earnest attempted suicide, but his attempt was unsuccessful. Later, Carine transformed him into a vampire on his deathbed. Some time later, the pair fell in love and married, starting to build a family of like-minded vegetarian vampires around them. Earnest possessed an unparalleled capacity for passionate love for those around him, which allowed the members of his adoptive family to consider him as the greatest paternal figure in their lives.
Earnest is an extremely warm individual who is gifted with the ability to love the people around him passionately. He has always had strong paternal instincts, which is why he is able to open his heart so easily to his family. This is due to the death of his first and only child when she was barely two years old, during his human life. Earnest is a very domestic individual. As a career and hobby, Earnest enjoys renovating old properties. Throughout his years as a vampire, he has studied and earned degrees in architecture.
Currently, Earnest is freelance architect in the Seattle area, while he resides with his family in Forks, Washington.
Plots with Earnest can be found here.

Edward Cullen (born Edward Anthony Masen, Jr., in 1901 in Chicago, Illinois) is a telepathic vampire and a founding member of the Olympic coven. After nearly dying from the Spanish influenza in 1918 in Chicago, Edward was turned into a vampire by Carlisle, as the only alternative to death. Over the next ninety years, the pair gathered a family of vampires around themselves. Much later Edward met, fell in love with, turned & later married Beau Swan.
Edward is described as brooding and stubborn, but also very kind and compassionate. He can also be charming, polite and determined. Edward is also a bit of a romantic at heart. He often over analyzes situations and has a tendency to overreact. He retains some of the traditional mindset and outdated speech from his human life in the early 20th century. Edward puts his free time to great use. Since vampires do not sleep, he employs the night hours reading books and studying languages, science, business and music, becoming a virtuoso on the piano he owns in his house.
Edward currently lives with his family in Forks, WA, posing as a senior preparing to graduate from Forks High School.
Plots with Edward can be found here.
Beaufort “Beau” Cullen (neé Swan) was born on September 13, to Renée and Charlie Swan, a young couple living in the small town of Forks, Washington. His parents divorced when he was only three months old. At 17, Beau came to live with his father in Forks from Phoenix, AZ. He met & fell in love with Edythe Cullen. He was transformed into a vampire after almost getting killed by the tracker James, who bit him.
Beau is the adoptive newest son of Carine and Earnest Cullen. He is the adoptive brother of Archie and Eleanor Cullen, and of Jessamine and Royal Hale. As a human, Beau possessed a natural immunity to the mental powers of vampires. After his transformation into a vampire, he develops it into the ability to project a mental shield that can protect others as well.
Having learned to take care of his mother over the years and being naturally responsible, Beau had developed into a very mature person, especially for his age. Because he lacks any skill in anything noticeable as a human, he mostly prefers to spend his free time reading, especially classics, and listening to music. His favorite book is Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. He is currently a senior at Forks High School, preparing to graduate & attend the University of Alaska.
Plots with Beau can be found here.
