For Write 365 Day 364!
Keith huffed as he followed a pair of officers to the lower level. They’d just gotten done with a meeting and these two wanted to show him something involving weapons development. He wasn’t entirely clear how he’d gotten roped into all of that, especially when he didn’t have much of a science background and that was Pidge’s area of expertise.
But the other Paladins had disappeared and he was the only one left, having a higher rank than a large portion of the Garrison as a Paladin of Voltron.
“Here we are, Mr. Kogane, sir,” one of them said, standing to the side of the doorway.
He was beyond trying to convince the members of the Garrison not to address him so formally, but he knew that such habits, especially when it came to rank, were hard to break.
“Thanks,” he muttered. He stepped through the doorway and shook his head, expecting them to follow, but the door shut behind him. He frowned and turned to look at the room, blinking when he realized he wasn’t in the middle of a lab or large training area.
“Hey baby,” Shiro greeted, his uniform jacket already unbuttoned to reveal the white cotton shirt underneath.
Keith looked around at the comfortable setup. “What is all this?” he asked.
He spotted a tray of food on the table with a pair of drinks and several pillows and blankets had been spread out on the floor once the conference table was moved to the side to give them space.
The monitor on the screen didn’t show any signs of complicated algorithms, or security camera footage, or even battle plans. It had a movie on the screen, paused over the title and waiting for the cue to continue.
“I thought we both deserved a night off,” Shiro said, pulling Keith out of his awe in the space around them.
“When did you get this set up?” he asked, stepping forward as his earlier tension and stress fell away.
Shiro shrugged. “I had some time today and decided to throw my weight around to reserve a room just for us.”
“And get two soldiers to bring me down here under the guise that i was going to oversee some new weapons development?”
Shiro chuckled and Keith spotted the light flush that dotted his cheeks in the low light. “So maybe that wasn’t my best excuse, but I figured if it got you down here, it didn’t really matter.”
Keith grinned and stalked forward, closing the distance between them. “I can’t argue with that,” he said, wrapping his arms around Shiro’s shoulders as Shiro’s large prosthetic pressed into his lower back. Keith closed the last bit of space between them and pressed their chests together, pushing up onto his toes to meet Shiro in a kiss.
Shiro sighed, tangling the fingers of his human hand in the back of Keith’s mullet to tilt his head back and deepen the kiss.
“You hungry?” Shiro asked, breaking the kiss so they could catch their breath. “I had the kitchen bring the best they could prepare and we have a movie ready to play. We have all night to spend in here alone.”
Keith raised an eyebrow. “And no one’s going to interrupt us?”
Shiro grinned and shook his head. “No one’s going to interrupt us. I…enlisted Pidge to help out. She’s got us on lockdown that should be starting right about…now.”
Keith blinked as the sound of a heavy bolt locking into place sounded behind him. “What was that?”
Shiro’s grin turned smug. “The lock on the door sliding into place. We can open it anytime we want, but no one can get in or override the lock. If it’s a true emergency, only Pidge can get through to us.”
“You really thought all of this out, didn’t you?”
“I wanted to spend a night with you and knew that we wouldn’t be able to get any time otherwise.”
Keith gave Shiro another quick kiss in thanks. “So, what’s for dinner?”
“Get comfortable and I’ll bring it over,” Shiro said, nudging him towards the blankets and pillows.
Keith chuckled and slipped his feet from his boots, leaving them on the edge of the area. He followed Shiro’s lead and undid the buckles on his uniform to pull it open and give him a chance to relax.
Shiro hurried over with the tray and set it between them, waving excited hands towards the platter for him to see. Keith laughed and swiped one of the small pieces of bread from the plate, humming in surprise when it ended up being filled with a delicious herb paste.
Shiro picked up a small tablet and hit a button on the screen, music flooding the space around them as the image on the monitor finally changed. Keith shifted closer to Shiro and leaned against his side, letting out a happy sigh as he picked at the food on the tray.
Shiro wrapped an arm around his side and pressed a quick kiss to the side of his head before he turned his attention to the food between them.

Once the food was cleaned from the different plates, Keith and Shiro settled back against the array of pillows. Keith tucked himself against Shiro’s side, draping his arm over his waist and tucking his legs underneath him.
He was happy and sated and feeling better than he had in a few weeks. He hadn’t even realized how much stress had built up in the back of his mind and dragged him down until he was angry and more short-tempered than usual.
Shiro was finally able to relax himself and he suspected the added stress of having so many people rely on him would’ve turned his hair white if it wasn’t already. He was glad to have Keith at his side once again and hoped they’d finally stop just barely missing each other whenever they had a free moment from the number of responsibilities that weighed down the shoulders of the Paladins.
Keith snuggled further against Shiro’s side, letting out a happy sigh as his eyes slid shut and he let the next several minutes of the movie they were watching wash over him in his relaxed state.
