Recently I attended a convention and while there i was lucky enough to get a quick interview with Jhon Common. Jhon is the artist, designer and coder for CRS Studios, the company that made Dead Pixels. I Asked him a little bit about about his next game, Dead Pixels 2.
Here we are with another Indie Game Review. In this week's Indie Game Review, we decided to cover Dead Pixels. This arcade Zombie apocalypse side scroller is a simple and randomly addicting game. The 8-bit side adventure is told as you trying to find your friends and escape chaos, as zombies take over.Â
The game features very simple left right game play, and although its a side scroller, you still can move up and down the screen, simulating taking advantage of the entire street.Â
As you progress through the game, you may notice passing by open doors and doors with markings on them or around them. Do not forget to check those out, as they keep you alive throughout the game, and may even give you some bonus cash, weapons or a quick restock on your ammo supply to keep you going.Â
Like any side scrolling arcade style game, the game continually gets harder as you pass through the levels. You face more strategic zombies, just like the ones that run up to you like mad when your trying to reload.
Each zombie drops a different amount of cash, so depending on the zombie means more or less cash, and that cash you collect can be used at any shop to buy or sell items or weapons.Â
Please note that if you find a weapon or item a merchant may want, you can trade him for cash or maybe even something cooler.Â
The music becomes as quickly as annoying as the game becomes fast paced. and even though that is my biased distaste for metal music in general, this game is still pretty addicting, kinda brings me back to spending hours gaining points and throwing my quarters away at the laundromat while my parents were busy getting laundry done.
However the game doesn't get you much more excited than that, and although the game offers many game modes, I still find myself playing and sticking to the original much more than anything else, and while it isn't like my addiction to Tetris, I can honestly say for being a cheap steam game, It was still worth the money. Â Overall the game deserves a 3.5 out of 5 for its creativity, and style.
