Einigkeit! Recht! Freiheit! – oder etwa nicht?
Supposedly, the CSD in Cologne, Germany this year was meant to held under the slogan “Einigkeit! Recht! Freiheit!” (unity, justice, freedom), which is also the start of the German national anthem (“Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit”).
Leftist groups and certain LGBT organizations demanded that it should be changed, due to sounding too nationalist.
Now let me ask you: How much can you hate your own country and its ideals that you would not even take a slogan based on a part of the national anthem even though that part is filled with the hopes for what principles the nation should be based on?
Unity, justice and freedom. Isn’t this what the LGBT community has been striving for? Being recognized as a part of the society instead of being driven out? Having equal rights to cisgender and straight people instead of facing oppression due to your gender identity and/or sexual orientation? Having the freedom to express your gender identity and/or sexual orientation freely without fear?
TL;DR: Unity, justice and freedom are concepts that also exist outside the German national anthem and if you hate your country so much that you can’t even use these principles for CSD, then honestly I don’t know how to help you.
