My precious young friend Melinda and I have been mistaken for mother and daughter a few times of late. We were at a delightful teahouse yesterday having a delicious and snooty high tea when the very sweet waitress said it was so nice to see a mother and daughter who were such good friends. "We ARE friends!" we retorted in unison. "I know. I think that's so sweet that a mother and daughter can be friends." she answered. No no no no no. We corrected her. I even asked her if I looked Asian or if Mel looked Italian. I mean really! The waitress had that puzzled look on her face like she just didn't get why the two of us would be in each other's company.
