I am way to proud of the result on this one getting to use my original skill set for this and I am actually gonna try and write on this.
Similar to DC Canon Dr. Jonathan Crane once worked at Arkham Asylum as a Psychiatrist, and one with a particular interest in fear and the effects of it on the human psyche, especially in its most extreme. And many at Arkham would fall to be his ‘tests’ first victims. Of course upon being found out he was immediately fired and the incidents were covered up and treated like they never happened. Dr. Crane didn’t set out to be a super villian when he made his Fear Toxin, he just wanted to get back at those he deemed wronged him, and happened to find he didn’t just like seeing fear he like causing it. And you can guess where it went from there.
As for appearance, there is an odd effect. The many years of usage and no matter how many times he cleans it his costumed is practically imbued with fear toxin residue. Which on a normal person cause a mirage/illusion effect making him look as he’s shown above to most. But if you have a lower tolerance he may appear even more horrid looking, and to those with a high tolerance he’ll look more like a guy in a costume. Batman has been looking into ways to negate this effect if not remove it. So far the only temporary solution is hosing him down with water that has been diluted with a fear toxin antidote. And when in lock up the suit is to have that done multiple times a day. If not the illusion remains and may grow worse if your around it and the costume is empty. (Reports of staff becoming convinced it’s alive and will take a host, it is in fact not doing so)
