Crown Viking

The Crown Viking is a striking pipe series that particularly appeals to lovers of rustic design and Nordic aesthetics. It is produced by the Danish brand Crown and offers excellent value for money.

The most striking feature of the Crown Viking is its finish. In contrast to highly polished pipes, the Viking series features a very rough, natural-looking partial rustication.

Poul Winslow, a Danish pipe maker, began his training with the renowned pipe maker Preben Holm. He later became the workshop manager there and Holm’s personal right-hand man.

After Holm’s workshop closed in 1985, Winslow founded his own workshop in Hvidovre (Copenhagen) in 1987. His designs are characterized by creativity, high-quality craftsmanship, and often unusual shapes and color accents.

Crown pipes (often referred to as the "Crown of Denmark“) originate from the workshop of the legendary Danish pipe maker Poul Winslow.

Winslow, who began his career as an apprentice to the Danish pipe-making icon Preben Holm, is regarded worldwide as one of the most creative and technically accomplished masters of his craft. While his high-end models ("Freehands") often cost several hundred euros, the Crown range offers Danish design and outstanding craftsmanship at an affordable price.

The surface finish is a defining feature of the Viking range. These pipes are often partially rusticated or "combed." This means that part of the bowl is left smoothly polished to showcase the natural grain of the wood, while the remaining area is rusticated or sandblasted. The result is a robust, distinctly Nordic look that gives the Viking range its name.
