Loux pawed sorely at the swelling around his face, fingers poking and prodding at ugly bruises and bloodied cashes while he smoked. Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale, clouds billowed into the air. Not a flame sparked beneath his fingertips, simply feeling, wincing at every ounce of pain shooting through his nerves. And still, a grin tugged at his lips, bitter and agitated but no less paradoxically amused.

When were people gonna learn to stop biting his fucking bait? And, fuck, when were they gonna stop going for his godsdamn face? He already had four scars crossing his nose and mouth. Now he was going to have another, and whether he deserved it or not was irrelevant. Maybe people should stop being so sensitive. It was a joke. A joke, ha! Maybe people were more like animals than nightfolk were. As if it mattered.

Still, a pair of shoes clicked and clacked against the pavement, drawing nearer and nearer. Blood oozed from his nose no matter how many times he wiped it off on his sleeve, huffing with every slight jostle, his head beginning to throb from the effort. He couldn't smell her over the pungent, sharp scent of iron, couldn't rightly feel what sort of energy she had either, body buzzing from the aftermath of his fight with those losers before. Did he even care in the first place? He didn't bother to look, spitting out a bit of the blood collecting in his mouth.

Maybe he ought to just heal it already.
