It does nothing at all the hide the relaxed set of his shoulders or the way he’s practically glowing with satisfaction. “Had fun?” Hunter asks after making sure that Omega at least is still asleep. “Mm-hmm,” Crosshair hums as he crawls back up in the new cot they’ve put up over the weapons’ rack so they’d each have one, instead of someone having to sleep in the cockpit chairs (they’d offered putting up one for Omega too, but she insisted she was happy with the gunner’s mount).

Good to know! (genuine) I figure some people don't want to read it, at least, and that's fair! I usually don't write much smut/NSWF anyway, and have been writing non-smut bits for these asks, just in case, but uhm. That's... less of an option with this fic now 😅 SO! You get some... almost smut? Pre-smut? Does this count as actual smut?

Crosshair hums and stretches just a little, letting Rex feel him shifting beneath him. “I could be fully naked,” he drawls when Rex’s hand keeps only playing with the waistband. Rex growls, a low sound against Crosshair’s shoulder, and the next moment Crosshair is on his back, underwear gone, and Rex pressed against his front, head to toe. “You’re such an ass,” Rex breathes into his throat, his chin, “so beautiful.”

Sure, he could just say he was going to sleep in Rex’s room and leave it at that; maybe some snide remark about Wrecker’s snoring or something. But knowing Omega, she’ll have questions and— Whatever. Point is, they’re spending the night in the same place as Rex and his men for the first time in weeks, and Crosshair’s not letting that opportunity slip him by.

Rex didn’t seem to mind, at least, was all-around very kind about it, but… Crosshair extracts himself from Rex’s arms without waking him. He’s gotten good at that, though usually it’s out of consideration for the dark circles under Rex’s eyes, or because Crosshair would rather wake him up in a different way. Today, it’s… he needs some space, he thinks. And a shower. A real one, if he can, with actual, hot water, not just a sonic.

Here you go! I'm not entirely sure this will actually make it into the final version of this fic, as I think the scene might work better for what I want from Crosshair's POV, but. I can't get this little sequence out of my head, so:

Rex wakes in the middle of the night to the sound of his door closing. When he turns to see who it is, he finds a vague figure standing right by his bed, the emergency strip lights briefly making their eyes flash like a tooka's. It would've been absolutely terrifying, if he didn't already know that Crosshair's eyes do that.

Crosshair has gone off to the side a little; a sign that he’s done with their argument for now and wants some space. Hunter can give him that, so long as he doesn’t wander off too far; he’s still a little caught on the last question Crosshair asked. Is running missions for Cid really that different from fighting for the Empire?
