Pims arc is him trying to keep everyone together. They're his little family. So he ends up becoming mediator for every critter in Crittertopia and it is so stressful, considering how many take him for granted. He always wanted to go to the Enchanted Forest, but living in it isnt all its cracked up to be. Pim is also entrusted as Jason's caretaker after Allan and Charlie have a physical fight, leading to Allan leaving Crittertopia with Whatwulf. Whatwulf is usually the one to watch Jason, but he didn't want to seperate Jason from everyone. So Pim takes him. (Interestingly..Jason is unaffected by Werecritterism.)

Allans arc is him and Whatwulf managing their relationship. They got engaged like a week before all of this. (Originally it was going to be them married already but I thought this would be more interesting.) Allan is struggling with the fact that all he wants to do is protect his fiance. Whatwulf IS disabled, but Allan absolutely goes overboard with being protective. Meanwhile Whatwulf is worried what this means for their relationship- will this continue after this is all done? So again, they have to learn communication again.

He still needs an optometrist, sadly. But he sees perfectly clear....only underwater. Otherwise he still needs glasses. Which he doesnt have. And keeps forgetting to get checked for. And kind of Cant until th is disease is cured.

Basically, every critter contracts something called Werecritterism. It makes them more hostile towards humans and well. They wanna eat them.

So its agreed on between the critters and humans that the critters will stay in the Enchanted Forest (which is where Critters came from!) until a cure is found.

Critters are basically an amalgamation of 10000 types of DNA. Hence why baby ones are called Homonculi.

Critters generally now are more humanoid than they used to be, but the Werecritterism causes changes in the DNA makeup or whatever that highlights the 'lost' parts of their DNA. I could explain this better but whatever lmao.

But each Critter has a different make up on genetics so they're all different with what they can do, what traits they have, etc.

While all this is cool, Werecritterism also hightens straight up EVERY emotion. So if you were to, say, be in denial that you were in love with your pink best friend because you arent ready to accept you like men, it's going to get harder. And if, say, you already deny all your feelings and bottle them up a lot..........you're either gonna have to face them or redirect them towards others.

It doesn't make them super animal-like in behavior or anything. When it does it is for comedy (Similar to how its done in Bojack Horseman)

Basically: Crittertopia is the title of my AU for Smiling Friends that involve the critters catching a disease called Werecritterism. So like. You know how it is with werewolf adjacent shit. This disease gives them increased aggression against humans- and the urge to eat them.

Critters originally came from the Enchanted Forest, so they all agree to move there until this is fixed, because they care about their human friends. Its not forced at all, but it still sucks. Because its not forced, they are regularly given supplies.

They end up taking refuge in an abandoned serene looking village. And it turns out Smormu didn't die. That was his brother. When his brother was killed, he fled to the Enchanted Forest and had been living there since. Because he had been living there the longest, he got the village running again while he lived there, alone. When the other critters show up, he agrees to let them live there....but he is their Mayor/Leader/Warrior Cats Clan Leader/Whatever.

Also! With Werecritterism, Critters not only come from the forest, but all of them have beast DNA far back in their ancestry. Critter DNA is a fucked up amalgamation of anything, honestly. So if one speicfic type of animal is prominent...they'll take on those features. Like Pim becomes Amphibious, Allan now has slick waterproof fur, Glep has tusks and shaggy fur, and Charlie keeps getting fleas.

Anyone can do whatever w/ this AU atp. Make your own interpretations, use the werecritter idea, take parts of it. Its fine. Its a fun thing that has a lot of possibilities! its also ok to do a werecritter/crittertopia design for your SF sona/OC!
