Firstly, while I found some executions very good, I also don’t understand quite a few of the decisions.

Why not use the ‘nobody’ trick? Why not let Ody dox himself. The whole story was about his ego and you skip that moment?!

Where was Aolus? Hermes? I did think the portrayal of Poseidon and Zeus were strong with the rage of nature, buti missed those two. I also do not agree with Athena. That was weird. Especially when Ody was holding hands with no one in front of Penelope.

I also had whished Circe to be a little more strong. I don’t know but I kinda felt like she was leaning too much into the role of the victim instead of a woman who became strong trough what she survived.

Also that transformation scene was fucking horrifying. I expected a slightly graphic scene but not Circe literally sculpting them into pigs. WHY WAS HET WHOLE ARM IN HIS MOUTH?? Laughed my ass off when I looked behind me to the faces of the whole room tho lol.

But don’t fear I don’t only have critique!

I loved the spin on that it didn’t really matter wether Helen went willingly or not, because in the end it wasn’t about her. It was about powerful men being jealous of more powerful men and starting a war because of their own ego. Agemennon wanting to destroy the influence that Troy has.

I loved Helen herself, although she wasn’t there for long I found that she was very strong. Apologising for everything done in her name, while she could never have done anything. (Also I think here she went with Paris willingly because she did not look happy at all with Menelaos).

Also wasn’t Menelaus boiled in bath instead of stabbed?

I also really liked Penelope’s “I’ve been sitting on this empty throne for twenty years” crashout. Very very valid. She was exactly like I imagined.

Telemachos was a little too confident for my taste. In the original verse he isn’t really raised to be a leader, for how far I know, because all the strong men were with Odysseus. So he wasn’t jumping to take the throne.

Also am I crazy or didn’t Odysseus do a whole plot to act crazy to not have to fight in the war? But agemennon saw trough it so he had to go anyways. Here it sounded almost like he wanted to go.

Oh and where was the weddingbed???

Love they included Argos and (I forgot het name but Odysseus old caregiver, woman with E who recognised his scar)

I also though Antonious’ scene where he was only screaming ‘get the swords!’ ‘Get the shields!’ ‘Kill him!’ Was fucking hilarious

All around I thought it was a good movie but me as classic hobby nerd just didn’t agree fully with everything.

Importantly, we are told early on in the film that in physics, theory is all well and good, but practically proving it is more important/impressive. This idea mirrors the moral debate of science’s place in the world. Oppenheimer’s relationship with the theoretical and practical elements of physics developed almost alongside his moral stance.

He begins with the stance of ‘we should pursue science for science-sake, the moral impacts of discoveries are not ours but the people who abuse it.’ This is seen by him, although still having his issues, still wanting the bomb dropped and not signing the petition. This aligns with his whole thing he has at the start of the film, in his younger years, unable to grasp the practical elements of physics, deeply invested, perhaps even intrenched, in the theoretical.

Then the bomb (both metaphorically and literally) drops.

He realises the consequences of the bomb dropping. He has visions of it and feels like the blood is on his hands as creator of the bomb. It mirrors his movement into the more practical element of the creation of the nuclear bomb. He now sees the practical consequences of his actions. He begins to consider his moral stance.

He then gets involved in the politics of nuclear energy. I think this is the big moment he realises what he is told at the start of the film, it’s all well and good in theory, but practicality is more important.

He now sees firsthand the practical consequences, via politics, science has on people lives and on the world at large. In physics, theory is all well and good, but what trumps it is practically proving it. Oppenheimer realises it applies to science’s place in the world, it’s all well and good the theory of scientific discovery being in a vacuum so should be developed no matter what, but in reality, like anything, other factors look in on science, we must consider its practical consequences, so caution must be exercised. Thus he opposes the hydrogen bomb.
