I've been dealing with a lot of "time" problems with my writing. Like, it starts off slow for the first two chapters, and then in the third one, someone gets killed and things take off. Is there a general preference for how fast or slow things should go to make it sound good?
It’s typically a good rule of thumb to vary the pace of your story. But there’s no real rule for how you go about it. Honestly, learning good pacing is one of those writing skills that you only gain through experience, and a good place to start is by looking at how time moves in stories with pacing that you like.

Hi! I was wondering since maybe I like poetry, if it would be okay if I published a book just of poetry? Do people buy those and would publishers like that?
The thing with poetry is that in its written form it’s almost entirely in the realm of academia - that is, people who’ve gone through MFA programs, who lecture on poetry and writing, etc. If you’re serious about poetry then going through a college program may be important, or else you can try and publish some stuff in journals and magazines. There isn’t much call for books of poetry if you don’t already have a name in it, though.
Do you have any advice on organizing thoughts and ideas for editing?
My Guide to Giving Critique is also a pretty good resource (in my opinion) for organizing your thoughts and knowing what to look out for as you go about editing. I definitely advise you to save much of the copy editing - at least, the fine detail stuff - for after you’ve given yourself ample time to write new content and rewrite as needed. Otherwise you’ll get stuck in revision purgatory.

Hey! So I've been writing a book for about three years now, and I've had a bunch of people tell me that it sounds good with the way everything is phrased and laid out. But to me it sounds choppy. Do I trust other readers or myself?
Learning to trust your own instincts is an important skill. Figure out why it sounds choppy to you and proceed from there.
Okay, so most Americans have had Kraft Mac & Cheese, I think.
Have you ever mixed in the powdered cheese with the noodles, and when you’re eating it, you get little clumps of powder that weren’t entirely mixed in, and you get this burst of cheesy goodness?
That’s what happens when you stand out. If you’re not mixed in, people will be like “Oh, I didn’t expect this, but it’s really good!”
So stand out in your community. B)
I've been working on a book for about three years now, and most of the people I know are interested. A friend told me that I should put it on Wattpad. Is that wise? Because I WILL eventually actually publish it, but I'm worried that the publishers won't take it after I do that or something else like stealing, but wattpad says they do their best to prevent that.
Don’t publish something online that you intend to publish for realsies. Excerpts, snippets, yes, but not the entire thing.
