"Drink Me"
A drabble about my character taking shots with yours.
âWhatâre we takinâ shots of? Shots ainât exactly pleasant to getâŚoh! You mean letâs go drink some alcohol. Aha! Okey-dokey. But, letâs not drink too much.âÂ
With that plus an easy smile, Aina sets up two jars. One filled up with his favorite drinkâone third Jameson whiskey with two thirds ginger ale. The other filled up with hersâplum-flavored fungus tea. She takes her time pouring them both. She wants to mix his drink just right.Â
Satisfied, Aina sets the bottles aside and sits down across from him. She holds up her jar with a grin and a giggle. âLetâs clink our drinks together in celebration of us.âÂ
â˛
âOh, goodness! I got lots oâ stories from my childhood! Many good ones I can still remember like they happened jusâ this morninâ. HmmâŚletâs see. Ooh! Hereâs a very special one.
âWhen Iâs six years old, my Papa tolâ me a story âbout a prince who was very spoiled. I mean, not literâlly spoiled like what happens tâ food when it sits for too long. I mean, very ântitled. Anâ selfish. He was mean to a lady who came to his palace askinâ for a place to sleep one day durinâ a storm. Turned out thâ lady was a witch, anâ to teach the prince a lesson she changed âim into a frog on the cândition he could change back into a person through an act of true love.
âMy Papa said that frog-prince could still be out there, lookinâ for somebody kind to help âim break the spell. âCourse, I spent the next few days worryinâ âbout it. How long he gone on like that? What if that boy learned âis lesson but nobody could tell he needed help âcause he was still an itty-bitty frog? Frogs canât speak words like people. They croak.Â
âSo I go out lookinâ for âim. Every day for thâ next two weeks after I done my chores, Iâd go outside lookinâ for frogs tâ kiss âtil itâs time to come back home for supper. Kisses are an act of true love. Iâd give âem more if I could. Well, itâs the one thing I can think of at the time that I can give to a frog. What with frogs beinâ so indâpendent âbout everything else. They sure are fast-n-slippery, Iâll tell you what!Â
âSure enough, all the frogs I found hopped away when I chased after âem. I couldnâ understand why. The frog-prince wouldnâ run away from somebody who wanted to help âim. UnlessâŚwhat if he couldnâ understand that they were tryinâ to help âim? What if the witch made it so that he could only understand frog language? Or, he done gone so long not talkinâ to people that he forgot how? Oh, jusâ the thought of that was enough tâ make me wanna cry!Â
âSo I try somethinâ different. I do what Pama said. The next frog I find, I donâ chase âim this time. Instead, I get down on the ground, I calm my mindâŚanâ I talk to âim. Jusâ like I would with any oâ my neighbors. âCept in his language instead oâ mine. Iâll tell you what, animals like you better when you donâ chase âem around anâ jusâ ask âem nicely what you want from âem. They donâ hold grudges like people tend to do. Anâ they got lots oâ interesting things to say if you jusâ listen. Anâ of course, you donâ force âem to talk.Â
âIâŚI still ainât found that frog-prince. All thâ frogs Iâve spoke to since then have dânied beinâ people before beinâ frogs. Anâ theyâve all said theyâre quite happy beinâ frogs, anyway. But, I ainât stopped lookinâ.âÂ

crierhavok replied to your post âOkay this year looks good so far, weâre actually going to see medical...â
Oh gods. I hope things go well for you this year friend, my sis went through medical school not too long ago and now she's in residency; I'm sure you'll do fine!!
@crierhavok Thank you so muuuuch I really appreciate thisâ¤ď¸
âLight travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.â
Ainaâs mouth forms an O-shape as her mind buffers itself to process this statement. Yes, light indeed travels faster than sound. Or at least, thatâs what conventional wisdom dictates. But what does that have to do with people? People cannot be bright for they do not make their own light. At least, not without tools. Certain species of bugs and fish can make light, thoughâŚ
Moreover, how does the words one speak affect how much light they emit?
She taps the tip of her nose. If she asked him to clarify what he meant, would he think her a fool? Her body briefly tightens at the possibility, but quickly relaxes.Â
Oh, well. Sheâs a fool, anyway.Â
âAha. Iâm sorry, friend. Iâm afraid I donâ quite know what you mean by that,â she says at last. âI donâ reckon a personâs luminescence is affected by what they say, on account of folks donât normally give off light in the first place. ThoughâŚitâd sure be neat if I met somebody who did. Anythinâs possible, I reckon. In fact, if folks could make light anâ change it accordinâ to their mood, theyâd be so much easier to understandâŚâ
Reporting for Duty!!
@crierhavok
BANG.
The door way swung open, nearly slamming against the opposing wall to permit the young Elric entry inside!
"Reporting for duty, Lieutenant Havoc, sir!" The boy did not have a prominent sort of voice meant for projecting immediate subservience to a cause, entirely too childish, too warm and kind to ever contain the connotation of strength sometimes needed in the military field, whether it was a genuine bout of emotion cradled in the heart or one birthed of unrelenting fear of tomorrow! The tone Al used was further marred by the odd echo to accompany his words, a side effect of his unfortunate state of being.
He stood rigidly, armored body held still, the red eyes peering from his helm unwaveringly focused on a spot in the distance chosen at random, not daring to flicker away for fear of recourse from his superior officer!
"I'm ready, sir!"
Odd. Alphonse wasn't part of the military ranks. Never had been, nor did he have much desire to start. The Elrics had enough on their plate as it was. With one of them tied up to the duties of the state, they could not afford for another to sashay in quite yet.
Nor did he have a previous discussion with the ole Lieutenant that would instigate such a passionate entry into his domain.
It was all a little baffling....
Then again, what about the Elrics was ever terribly clear? It was almost as though they strove to keep those in their lives forever on their toes, throwing wrenches on their day that would leave them scratching at their heads.
