Machines are unlikely to replace Artists and Entrepreneurs
“Soon, we’ll see artificial intelligence become more accessible to those without the tech know-how, and used to automate complex things like data analysis, as well as simple tasks like ordering stationery when used with the Internet of Things,” says Davies. “This will undoubtedly make businesses more efficient.” While artificial intelligence will come to define a variety of industries and business functions – ranging from bookkeeping and accountancy to transportation and retail – there are also a huge number of jobs that are not a robot’s strong suit. Creativity and innovation, for example, are hard to automate, which is why artists and entrepreneurs are unlikely to be replaced by machines any time soon.
As Lashbrooke explains, though, none of this will happen overnight: “Jobs that don’t require human empathy will be the first to go as they are more easily automated, but it may take longer than a decade for this to happen .” When it does happen, humans and robots can look forward to working side-by-side in order to achieve greater things and take on more important tasks. For employees, this should be a reason for excitement about more fulfillment and creativity at work.
The time that was once spent on data entry will instead be spent on solving complex problems. For businesses, the new era of work offers the opportunity to improve organization-wide productivity, offer a better quality of life for workers and take advantage of the unique qualities that make humans irreplaceable.
