Commonly asked Starbucks Cup Design Questions
Most commonly asked questions -STARBUCKS CUP EDITION-:
Q: Why hasn't Starbucks hired you?
A: I have emailed them, posted on their Facebook, etc. They seem to ignore me or delete my posts from their page. The only times I got noticed were on Instagram when they liked two of my posts. I don't think they have any intentions on hiring me.
Q: Why Starbucks cups?
A: I found that they are a really nice, sturdy material and I like that I have a focal point, being the logo.
Q: What materials do you use?
A: Copics, sharpies and a white gellpen.
Q: What's your favorite drink at Starbucks?
A: Honestly, I don't really drink anything at Starbucks.. in fact, I don't like coffee. My mom brings me home a cup to decorate when she goes to Starbucks.
Q: Why draw on something you'll just throw away?
A: I don't throw them away... They are actually really great for holding pens, pencils, erasers, etc. and they add some color to your room or office!
Q: Do you sell your cups?
A: I do NOT sell my cups. The reasoning is because they take soo much time to finish and the materials I use are quite costly (but they create the best quality art). If I charge at least minimum wage, for my work (which an artist should do), the price would be too much... And I also have very few cup designs and far too many people asking. On top of that, because it IS on Starbucks merch, I could be sued.... which kind of sucks.
Q: Have you considered entering their cup art contests?
A: I actually have... I got to the finalists one year, but they ended up picking a basic black and white zentangle design. The winners cup was gorgeous, nonetheless.
Q: How do you feel about your cups going viral at the same time as the controversy?
A: Honestly, I kind of hate it. I mean, don't get me wrong, the publicity has been an incredible experience; however, a lot of people hate Starbucks right now and because of that hatred, they see my cups as trash rather than beauty. I've actually received quite a bit of harsh and snooty comments asking why I haven't made a Christmas cup. Q: How exactly do you draw on the cups? Do you have a special technique?
A: To be honest. I don’t have much of a technique; however, I found that placing your non-dominant hand inside the cup gives a bit more support and makes it easier to draw on the cup. Q: What inspired you to create these designs? A: Kristina Webb, known as colour_me_creative on instagram, commented on my page 1.5 years ago asking if I’d be interested in drawing her in my style. At the time, I didn’t know who she was, but as soon as I checked her page, I was floored! She had 700k+ followers at the time and her work was incredible to me. I saw her cup designs on her page and I decided to try it out, myself. Of course, I decorated the cups with my own little twist and decorating them turned out to be one of my favorite things to do!
