Grapefruit (Citrus)

Grapefruit trees are "high-light" plants. To thrive, they need:

Direct Sunlight: At least 6–8 hours of direct sun per day.

Best Location: A South-facing window is the only spot in a typical CT home that provides enough natural intensity during winter.

Outdoor Transition: Once the night temperatures stay consistently above 50°F, they should be moved outside to a sunny patio to soak up the full summer sun.

Papaya

Papayas are even more demanding than citrus when it comes to light:

Full Intensity: They require 8–10 hours of the brightest light possible. In their native environment, they grow in full, equatorial sun.

Growth Pattern: Without enough light, a papaya seedling will become "leggy" (tall, thin, and weak) as it stretches toward the window.

Winter Survival: Because Connecticut winters have very short days, a South-facing window might still not be enough.
