"I said NO Crane. I'm done! I'm finished! I can't do this anymore! Can't you see how bad it's getting?" Bloodshot eyes open again and he can't hide how tears prick at the edges. "I can't even sleep anymore. Those- things- whatever your godforsaken drug is doing to my brain shows up in my dreams! I can't-"

Croc only gave a low growl in response, a sound deep enough to rumble in his chest like thunder as his teeth glistened in the dim light. He didn't FEEL like talking right now. It would be smoother for HIM if Crane would just follow him to the exit they were seeking...

But the rumbling growl slowly faded enough for him to speak in a thick Cajun accent.

Edward never liked Christmas. He had no fond memories of the holiday. Truthfully every year he just spends the day waiting for it to be over so he can take advantage of the heavily discounted candy the day after. So he wasn't expecting to get anything.

Still, he gently takes the box, brows raising at the contents. A gear. A simple gear he'd long since forgotten about. Basically garbage, until Jonathan got his hands on it. His fingers trace over the woven band, imagining the time it took to carefully string everything together. Jon said it was a gift for his altar, and he could practically feel the worship that went into it.

He's silent for a long while, picking at the corners of his fingers, expression unreadable. He already knew how Jon felt on some level. He was a genius after all and Jon wasn't exactly subtle about it. It wasn't shocking to hear. Still he finds himself retreating, trapped in his own thoughts once again.

Everything was too loud. He couldn't find the right answer-- there was always a right answer. He didn't feel the same way, he knew that, but Jon was important to him, wasn't he? Someone he cared about above anyone else- someone he was scared of hurting even now
