sprace - yes, immediately out of high school / during early college since race doesn't want his dads name on his phd so he takes conlon and spot doesn't mind sticking with his own since it was his moms name

crutchbert - yes, they have like 2 kids and are such a middle-age married couple

spromeo - no, with the asterisk of that they could, but they both have trauma from past relationships of being stuck/"tied down" so just dating is good enough for them since they know their partner loves them

newsbians - yes, they're freshly 23 and out of college, they do a traditional wedding, the full nine yards and they both look like princesses

ralbert - no, like spromeo, they know their partner loves them and that's enough. they do elope when they're older (like mid 30s) but for now it's enough

blush - no but then one day when they're like 25 mush sits up suddenly and is like "i just realized, we're not married even tho we've been dating for like 12 years, we should do that" and blink says "oh yeah i forgot about that. we should. we're kinda overdue anyway" and then they do! and they're really sweet

jackcrutchie - yes, like newsbians they go the traditional route and are superrr cute and fluffy

redfinch - yes but they elope and don't tell anyone until like 2 years after just to see if anyone noticed (no one except for katherine did)

Charcter 1: Albert is a tough newsie with a soft heart. He means well, but sometimes he goes too far with his jokes.

Character 2: Crutchie is an experienced and optimistic newsie. Although he is usually a kind person, he’s not someone you want to cross- unless you like being made a fool of.

All About It:

Crutchie and Albert are very touchy- feely with each other. They often stand together and put their arms around each other. Albert even carries Crutchie bridal style at one point. (Gifset)

Crutchie trusts Albert. Crutchie states that he “don’t want anyone should see (he) ain’t been walkin’ so good”, (Newsies Live script page 1) but when Morris attacks him he lets Albert help him up and support his weight. The script states that Albert acts “immediately”, showing that they probably have talked about this, and Albert knows that he’s the . designated helper. (Newsies Live script page 9)

Albert doesn’t like Crutchie as much as he likes Race. Despite otherwise being good friends with Crutchie, Albert agrees with Race that he only sells well because people pity him. (Newsies Live script page 6) 

Will it Ship?

YES! Albert and Crutchie spend a lot of time together, and seem to be close already. It’s not a stretch that they could end up together. Besides, see how Albert is looking at Crutchie in the 6th gif? (Gifset)

What made you ship it?

initially it was literally just the sweater thing like. ok you’re telling me this guy forgot to bring a sweater to a ski trip?? in calgary?? a trip that may have just been the two of them bc wesley just says “josh and i went to calgary last month”?? and then he kept wesley’s sweater for a month afterward despite living on the same campus as him??? like yes from a writing perspective it’s literally just to show that they were close it’s an easy excuse to have josh’s dad talk to wesley but it is also. kinda gay.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

I think it lends itself really well to an exploration of wesley’s character and his issues with identity and self determination. I don’t necessarily see it as being knowingly reciprocated in canon during the time josh is alive, but wesley is a really repressed person, so it’s really easy to take the approach of “he did potentially have some feelings for josh and just wasn’t sure how to really deal with them.” and then we get into the idea of wanting that I’ve talked about before with josh being kind of his first real friend that’s actually his peer and who likes him as a person and that’s already important, and then if you get into the idea of wanting a romantic relationship, that’s an independent desire that’s not passed down from anyone else or an attempt to be like his parents, so beginning to know what that’s like and then losing it ends up having this really significant effect on his character.

also like josh was difficult to nail down at first because we know like…3 things about him from the episode, which is not enough to be a fleshed out character but also meant I could not just totally make up a guy from scratch, but once I figured out a character that worked I started to really enjoy writing him. every fic I’ve written about them post theory of stellar evolution only exists because I got stupid attached to him. I think he’s neat.

also they have the worst ship name of all time because i thought it was funny.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

unpopular opinion is that i care about it uhhh

this much? not counting the published fics or any fun little side adventures? also I do think I tend to write josh kind of differently than the couple other fics in the tag but that’s not really an unpopular opinion so much as it’s just a thing that’s vaguely interesting to me
