Essek was sitting on his desk, watching the snow fall outside of his window. It had been days since Jester last reached out to him. Maybe they don’t need me, he thought to himself. It was a sad thought he had to admit. Before he met the Nein he had been somewhat happy, definitely content with his non-existent relationships, but after having to deal with all of them - and especially Jester - he missed it, missed them.

What if they’re lying dead somewhere. What if this danger Jester was talking about even worse than they had anticipited? Or even worse. What if only Jester wanted him there, but the others didn’t. He did lie to them. He still didn’t really feel guilty about his part in the war. Knowledge is after all power and he graves knowledge. Essek always thought someone like Caleb would understand, but there was also a chance that the wizard would resent him for it.

He stood up and started pacing. He should go find someone to send them a message. Just to be safe. His frantic walk is interrupted by a knock on the door. Essek immediatly starts to float.

“What is it?”

“There is someone in the camp, he says he was with the Mighty Nein.” a voice calls from outside.
