I brought back this cheeky little shit. He’s my wet-butted, cataracts-eyed brainchild. For those who don’t know him, “The Coyote with the River on it’s back” or the Coyjul was a concept for a Ruanhain folktale that I came up with last year. I have more posted on him here.

He is a spirit of mischief whose appearance is read as an omen by many of Ruanhai’s nomadic peoples. Depending on who you ask, supposed sightings of his visage herald the coming of of severe storms in times of drought, floods, and other natural disasters. Because the coming of storms doubles as a positive event in Ruanhai’s harsh desert climate, the Coyjul is also seen as the bringer of the long awaited rainy season.

I’m half convinced he makes that expression when he’s waiting for people to drown. As a spirit, he’s essentially gone from cackling at gods to mocking the beings who worship them.
