so, I’ve mentioned that my current job is entering COVID test data from lab reports. and like, I knew how big this was before, but this has given me a whole new perspective on the scale of this thing.Â
I work 15 hours a week, probably process about 10 individual reports an hour. so that’s about 150 reports a week. and I’d say about 90% of those are positive tests. so that’s....
brain can’t math, pulls out calculatorÂ
...about 135 positive tests a week.Â
now keep in mind, I’m entering all their information, name, age, address, race, gender, etc. and by the time you’ve spent about five minutes on that, it gives you a really good sense of the fact that this is an individual, a person who just got diagnosed with a potentially deadly disease. and I do this about 135 times a week.Â
and that’s just me, working on the lower edge of part-time. they have a whole office of people doing 8+ hour days of that exact.same.thing. literally just spending 40+ hours a week entering individual COVID tests, a large percentage of which are probably positive based on my experience with what kinds of records come in. you can do the math...or if you’re like me, you can get a basic idea of the math and stop there.Â
and that is just one office in just one state.Â
