5 Questions with Cristina García, Author of Here in Berlin
We’re excited to host Cristina García at City Lights Bookstore on Wednesday, November 1st, reading from her new novel, Here in Berlin (published by Counterpoint Press)! She answered our 5 questions.
City Lights: If you’ve been to City Lights before, what’s your memory of the visit? If you haven’t been here before, what are you expecting?
Cristina García: I've been to City Lights many times. It's my favorite bookstore in San Francisco. I especially love your upstairs Poetry Room and can lose myself there for hours.
CL: What’s the first book you read and what are you reading right now?
CG: I remember the first book that made a big impact on me was A Wrinkle in Time. I read it when I was in 3rd grade and was utterly transported by it.
CL: Which 3 books would you never part with?
CG: The Palm at the End of the Mind by Wallace Stevens; Before Night Falls by Reinaldo Arenas; Autobiography of Red by Anne Carson. But, actually, there are dozens more!
CL: If your book had a soundtrack, what would it be?
CG: Bruckner's Symphony No. 7.
CL: If you opened a bookstore tomorrow, where would it be located, what would it be called, and what would your bestseller be?
CG: I'd call it Las Dos Brujas Bookstore and my bestsellers would be Latinx fiction of all kinds. (It's so hard for me to choose just one of anything!)
Join us on November 1st at 7PM, Cristina will be reading from her new book, Here in Berlin. The book is available now at City Lights and wherever else quality books are sold.

The weather here in MD is cloudy with a chance of ice, meaning we will be staying inside. Perfect weather for reading, baking, movie watching, and Taylor Swift dance parties. Listening to Fearless on repeat in anticipation of the release of Taylor’s version with 6 new songs!
