Monday was our first ECO Discover Day! We explored the rocky intertidal zone here on St. Paul Island. Lauren, Tonia, and Karen pointed out all the creatures living under the boulders in the high tide zone - mostly periwinkles (sea snails) and kelp. Kids brushed up on their surveying skills through practice bioblitzes, counting all the living things they found in their quadrants along a transect line. It took quite some time to count all those periwinkles but they did it! In the future we'll visit the same spot to see what lives in the middle and low tides zones. We also created some amazing halibut artwork for the 4th of July parade yesterday, they made the ECO truck look great! #alaska #stpaulisland #beringsea #kids #kidscience #ECO #ecosystems #intertidal #tidepools #hightide #snails #kelp #ocean #ourocean #explore #discover #survey #transect #bioblitz #teach #learn #count #countallthethings (at Saint Paul, Alaska)
