THANK YOU and idk depends on what you mean by smell. Do the rats, individually, exude that musky manly male rat odour of virility designed to let the cute female rat know that she could be having the night of her life right now? Absolutely. (Though I don't mind it so much and it helps that my sense of smell is kinda stunted because I have atopic dermatitis of the perpetually sniffly house dust-sensitive variety). Though as far as I know - don't quote me on this, consult a professional - neutering them can help reduce it, but personally I think that's a bit extreme, especially given the risk of the surgery going wrong with such a small animal

The cage itself? I have a huge one (custom-made) that's 120 x 60 x 120 cm in size, and just three rats, so you don't get much of a sense provided litter boxes are changed every few days or so. I did notice that there's a much stronger smell much quicker when they stay in the much smaller cage at my parents' house when I'm visiting.
