I've been bitten by the fish bug SO BAD. I have a fluval spec v and a female betta. But I want a bigger tank now eventually. We have very hard water here, and a high ph, so I was thinking African cichlids make the most sense for me because I wouldn't have to alter the water chemistry much if at all. I really love huge schools of tiny fish like tetra though! But I heard they only linger on in hard basic water. And altering water with peat or chemicals makes the chemistry unstable. What do??
HMMMMMM well you could get other fish that like a higher pH like any livebearers! Guppys, mollys, platys, and swordtails are all going to dig a high pH!
Another option are Congo tetras, although they get kind of large (3") and need 30 gallons+.
Using peat is not something I'd recommend because of it's environmental impact, but you can try using driftwood and indian almond leaves! In conjunction with each other and with some practice you should be able to lower your pH to what you want it at.

I'm an adoptee and I HATE having these convos about adoption vs. ivf irl because NO ONE GETS IT and no one gets why I don't want bio kids and why I want to foster to adopt if I have kids at all. I do not need to add children to the world, especially with my genetics. It's so hurtful that there are children who need homes and permanent families who will never get them. If kids don't bond at an early age to a caregiver it causes severe problems later on. I know first hand. SMH.
THANK YOU. I am very bothered that the people who are so uncaring about adopted children and shit seem to have no understanding of early childhood development, or adolescent development at that. Like jfc how about you don't have kids at all if you're going to be like that, god. How can they not think "wow I wonder how I would feel as a kid, not having a permanent family?" Like ???? That shit didn't cross your mind? HOW!? It is very hurtful and because of that, no, I will not budge on this ivf/bio issue. It's unfair to the children. They are here, they must be cared for and loved.
