Cosmolabe Prototype: Finished
Okay. Just finished my first prototype for playtest at a for real event on the earth and some people might actually play it. This weekend I’m going to clean it up, compile it, PDF it, and post it here, so I can have something to show for a week of first-thought-best-thought game dev. The best part, when you’re furtively google-doc-ing up some nonsense at lunch at work, is when you realize you don’t have time to stop and come up with clever, well-researched names. This shows in the NPCs i pulled together for the pre-made adventure. Highlights include “Fast Edna” the mechanic, “Alcoholism Jones” the bartender, “Evil Stephen” the pirate witch armed with the fated Blade of Diazepam, and “The Rodent”, captain of The Rat Puncher. It’s a pirate ship wrapped in barbed wire.
The rules in their entirety fit on a single one-sided 8.5 x 11 page in size 10 font, which always makes me happy, with the exception of the difficulty table. This is just the core mechanic and a gesture at combat/healing rules though. Every other game I’ve made would be done by now.
