Dropping my two cents on the TerraTerraCotta situation because boy do I have a bunch of stuff to say
PLEASE DO NOT HARASS ANY OF THE USERS MENTIONED. IT ADDS NOTHING TO THE DISCUSSION. Although I think that this is common sense, it's the internet, who knows what could happen.
Additionally, if there is any missing context or info, please let me know in reblogs or comments. My DMs are also open but it's more beneficial for info to be public.
So already, first off, the image in Terra's post.
First thing I'll mention, the OC on the left (the supposed copycat) appears to be modified from the original. Here's a comparison below
The main changes that I've noticed:
Body colour shifted closer to the salmon colour of the rightmost character
The size of the bows has been changed matching that of the rightmost character
The ears have been dropped down resembling those of the rightmost character while being more flexible in position in the original image
Whiskers and freckles have been added which were not initially present, adding the resemblance to the other two characters
The leaf/stub at the top of the original character's head is removed in Terra's image
What the purpose or intention behind these modifications is? I don't know but in my eyes, the legitimacy of the claim that the OC is some sort of copy is heavily discredited with this in mind.
Genuinely, taking this into account, I do not think that this is copying. If we follow that logic, Wenda by Nyanko and Token by Femtanyl could be carbon copies of let's say Duchess from Aristocats, and I think that we can see why that's dumb. An orange bunny is an extremely generic character design, the concept has certainly been done before, I don't see this as a big deal.
Additionally, Terra (if you're even reading this), you are a rather prominent figure in the Sprunki community and stuff like this will happen kinda often (obvious is obvious). Now, there is absolutely no issue with being uncomfortable with people taking close inspiration, but in that case, I don't think it's difficult to approach someone privately and tell them that you have an issue with them copying your work. I don't see anyone mentioning this but this situation should've honestly stayed private. A public post with sprites that took say an hour or so to edit was not needed. We also mention your age since it's over double that of the literal kids you're dealing with. You're 34 and as a teacher, I assume you know how occasionally annoying and immature kids are because, well, they're kids. There's of course nothing wrong with enjoying Sprunki or any other children's media at that age. I would be a hypocrite if I said otherwise and no one ever mentioned this as an issue. As a, let's be real here, trusted adult in the community, you should know better.
Now, to lesbiangremlin's mutuals since ik a few if you follow me on here, although I understand that you're well intentioned and trying to protect your mutual/friend, insulting the people who you believe need to take accountability for their actions does not help your case. Ik y'all are in the 13-15 y/o range in terms of age so I'll take it as a slip up but I advise you all take down your posts actively insulting Terra or anyone seemingly associated with her. It does nothing other than escalate an honestly miniscule issue.
I think thag, at the end of the day, this was all something that could've been quickly handled in private that got escalated out of proportion. Also people should learn conflict de-escalation. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
