Cos and Effect 40 x 30 inches acrylic on canvas With Cos and Effect I chose to take a satirical approach so that we could better dialogue about this sensitive topic. Bill Cosby, an African-American stand-up comedian, actor, musician, and author, has been the latest subject of publicized sexual assault allegations. These allegations did not become highly publicized until 2014 when more than 60 women accused him of rape, drug-facilitated sexual assault, sexual battery, child sexual abuse, and sexual misconduct. The guilty verdict is a remarkable turn of events for the man once known as "America's Dad." Cosby was a groundbreaking actor and the first African-American performer to win an Emmy for his role on "I Spy." He played the sweater-loving Cliff Huxtable on "The Cosby Show," one of the first mainstream TV shows to feature a black upper-middle class family. The recent conviction of Bill Cosby has revived the age-old question: Can the value of a person’s creative work be separated from the harm of their behavior?
