10 [ OH GOD WHAT IS THIS ONE I HOPE ITS NOT SAD ]
10. my character playing a joke on yours
Elizabeth had been cooking for the better part of 20 minutes, humming lightly to herself as she moved to and fro across the kitchen, her daughter napping peacefully in her bassinet nearby.Ā
She didnāt hear the living room window sliding open or the sound of black boots as they shuffled in, too busy with trying to get the recipe she was working on correct. The crinkling of plastic made her ears perk up, but after a moment she just brushed it off as her imagination and continued, stirring the sauce pan a little before adding a dash of seasoning. All the while the mysterious intruder had padded up silently behind her, painted face a muted smile.
He waited in the shadows, waiting for the perfect time to strike.
Elizabeth moved away from the stove to the fridge, rummaging around, and itās at this point he decides to pounce.
With a playful smile on his lips, he sneaks up behind her and grabs her shoulders, whispering a quick āBooā in her ear before backing away. Her reaction is priceless; she jumps, screaming and drops the gallon of milk she had in her hand, the liquid splashing all over the floor.Ā
Heās laughing a little too hard as she clings to the fridge door, her free hand covering her face and her shoulders shaking with either laughs or sobs, he canāt really tell. After a few minutes, he starts feeling a bit guilty,Ā
"Hey, you ok?" he asks, stepping into the large puddle of milk to stand next to her. Elizabeth is laughing, but itās the kind of laughter thatās mixed with a sob, the tears in her eyes attest to that. He hadnāt meant to freak her out this much. Liz on the other hand is trying really hard not to just yell at him, she knew he was just joking butā¦.that hadnāt been very nice.
"Ericā¦! Youā¦youā¦." she straightened up, pouting as she got as close as she could, causing the other to lean back a bit, "You! Youāre such a jerk!" she huffed as she pounded her fists on his chest once, though the small smile on her lips meant she was just playing.Ā
The playful hit had more force behind it than was intended, and Eric actually felt it, knocking some of the breath from his lungs and making him stagger a bit. She was quite a bit stronger than he anticipated. After a bit of stunned coughing, he noticed Liz cleaning up the mess and turning off the stove,
"Hey, uhā¦I didnāt come empty handed." he said, going over to the hall and pulling out some plastic bags filled with groceries, "I kinda figured youād need some moreā¦.and Iām glad I did." he said, offering the bags and a small smile.
Liz laughed, āThank you. Would you like to stay for dinner?ā
