4. did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
definitely! i work in publishing so that's kind of one of the joys of the job haha but outside of that, i loved mariana enríquez's short stories this year so am excited to read her new novel once i get round to cracking it open, and i also (as may not have escaped your notice) got very into the anne rice books this year
10. what was your favorite new release of the year?
i've already answered this a bit but i'll give a different honourable mention to our wives under the sea by julia armfield, which is a creepy 'loved one came back wrong' novel where a woman returns from a deep-sea mission, but her wife is sure something's not right. the submarine-based parts of this in particularly were marvellously unsettling
