Will asked me to marry him a little under a year ago. We had a picnic at Nymans National Trust garden and went home engaged!

I'll be honest, I am not the most enthusiastic bride (massive understatement). The thought of standing in front of all my friends and family in a white dress frankly terrifies me and the more people asked me about it the more I wanted to run away and do it quietly without anybody knowing.

Neither Will or I are what you would call 'organisers'. Having not even celebrated our birthdays throughout the 7 and a half years we've been together, due to our lack of organising abilities, neither of us were sure we'd ever get round to actually sorting the wedding out.

On our last visit to Trevoole (www.trevoolefarm.co.uk) in July 2011 the subject of our non-existent wedding arose over a cup of tea in Beth and Travis' kitchen. I was my usual non-commital anti-wedding self, a routine that was boring me a bit. It is, I've realised, much more exhausting not having a clue what you're doing because there is no quick answer to 'When is the big day?', 'How many bridesmaids do you want?' or 'Do you want a traditional wedding?'. So anyway, over this particular cup of tea I succumbed and decided to talk about it as if it wasn't a moot point.

It was lightly discussed that it would be lovely to have our wedding at Trevoole, in the garden. We talked about the impersonal nature of some wedding venues (I don't want to have the same wedding as the couple the day before, but with different flowers and seating plan). A garden party at Trevoole would be so relaxed and unique. The discussion went on for a while until it stopped being hypothetical and I realised, without knowing it, that we were planning a wedding I actually wanted to turn up for! Beth could grow flowers especially for the wedding and she had the idea of making a wall of flowers in the marquee, which sounds fabulous. We decided that we could look out for bell tents on ebay to use as places for people to go, sit and chat in during the reception. We could set up lots of tables and chairs and endless tea, scones and nibbles could be served...I was beginning to get quite into it!

I chose a date that had been in my head for no good reason (22nd June 2012) and we looked it up. A Friday...nice idea, people could come and have a long weekend down in Cornwall...or maybe come down earlier in the week and help us set up and make cakes for the tea we're going to have in the garden....

So here we all are, planning a wedding for next June! As we're doing this long distance, Beth will keep me updated via e mail when something is planted or bought for the wedding and I will do the same as we collect chairs, candles, fairy lights etc down here (Sussex). I will update the blog as we go.
