 Who are you?
Hi, my name is Corey Lay. I am the lead of our Test Design team here at Four Lights.
What do you do at Four Lights?
As lead of the Test Design team, it is my job to basically plan what we're testing. I work with our engineers and design team to figure out what's being implemented in to the game, what do we need to test, what might be vulnerable. It's kind of up to me to use creativity sometimes just to figure out - "Okay, they put in this feature what can we do now that we couldn't do before and how can we exploit that to create bugs?" It's really a lot of fun actually. And as part of Test Design we are Testers and Game Designers so we are always constantly looking at balance. We're always adjusting balance, adjusting maps, adjusting creep types, adjusting towers. Anything to make the game feel better from a design point of view and a quality point of view.
What did you do before working at Four Lights?
Before joining the team at Four Lights I was at 2K Games. I've pretty much worked on every game that's been released since 2012. So you have your BioShock Infinite, Borderlands 2, all the DLC for that, Spec Ops: The Line, NBA, WWE, Civilization: Beyond Earth, Evolve... Pretty much every game they've released until this Fall. It was a lot of fun. A lot of different projects. A lot of different platforms. I learned a lot over there.
What do you do in your free time?
Aside from the obvious of playing video games, I'm also very active. I love to go outside, love to go to the gym, love to swim, love to hike - very, you know, outdoorsy type stuff. I like movies, I love TV shows, I read novels every so often but I'm more of a TV show kind of guy. Love to cook, trying new restaurants, trying food. Just a little bit of everything!
Why do you want to work in video games?
From a very young age I've always wanted to work in Video Games because of how I think they can impact an audience. I think they have the potential to be more impactful on someone's life than TV shows, movies, and books - partly because you're interacting with the character and making decisions in the story. I know there are a lot of games I've played that I've loved because they let me feel empowered. So, I would like to give that to somebody else. Maybe let them be something they aren't in real life but want to be. Just let them use this medium to express themselves in a way. So hopefully throughout my career I can tell great stories and make people's lives better with the games I create. Maybe give them a different view on something or let them try something new. We'll see what I do but it'll be a lot of fun!
