Burt joined the Toppat clan because he was pregnant with her(For context, Burt was born with both sets of genitalia). At the time, he and Charles Calvin were engaged, but Charles was also constantly being experimented by the CCC and sent off on dangerous missions by the government. When Burt found out about his pregnancy, he immediately knew that if he stayed, his child would be subjected to the same hell as their father, and he wouldn't have been able to live with that. He wanted to bring Charles with him, but every time he brought up the possibility of running away, he was dismissed, as Charles was too brainwashed to believe that escape was even possible. So, Burt ran away without informing Charles that he was about to be a dad. At the sixth month mark, Sven found him and brought him to the Sea division, where he joined the clan, and where Josie was born 3 months later.
She's a good mix of both parents, she has golden brown skin from Burt and curly blonde hair inherited from Charles black-and-blonde streaked curls. Burt sometimes calls her black Goldie locks and occasionally Josie locks 😅. Josie used to have two bright amber eyes like Burt, but then a previous Toppat Leader(who was so awful that she wasn't featured in the hall of leader's)threw some unknown chemical substance at her left eye, causing Charles dragon genetics to kick in and attempt to recover the eye, but she was so young that it never went back to the way it was before, leaving a permanent scar around the area and turning a deep forest green with a draconic pupil.
While Josie can see just as much as she used to with her left eye, she covers it up because looking at it makes her mama Burt sad. She thinks it's because Burt finds it scary, but the reality is that Burt sees it as his greatest failure, because he wasn't there to protect his own daughter when she was in danger.
Josie's favorite toy is a pale grayish-green bunny rabbit that she carries everywhere. She named it Springtrap, and yes, she knows exactly what she's referencing, that's why she picked that name. This is what it looks like;
Her left eye allows her to see ghosts, but nobody has realized that yet.
She spends most of her time in the portrait hall, talking to the paintings.
Personality wise, Josie is a mini Burt Curtis, but is prone to causing chaos, just like her father Charles. She's not nearly as destructive as him though thank goodness
Burt kinda just...Let's her wander the spaceship solo. She can't get into anything dangerous by herself, and he can watch and even talk to her through the security cameras no matter where she goes. It's not uncommon to spot Josie seemingly alone, only to for her to say something random and hear Burt respond to her through the areas loudspeakers.
She comes home to Burt every night though.
She grows up to be one of the clans top hackers in routes where the Toppat clan still stands. She doesn't have much of a future in one's where it's defeated.
Josie doesn't know who her father is in most routes. She only finds out who he is in T4L and TK. This is because Burt's afraid she'll go after him and get captured by the government.

Like Josie, Mari doesn't know who her father is, but for a different reason. You see, Ellie Rose has amnesia and absolutely no idea how she got pregnant. Ellie actually thinks that Mari's father abandoned them(which is what caused her abandonment issues), when in reality, Reginald thinks that Ellie is dead, and is currently mourning her.
Reginald had no idea that Ellie was pregnant when she 'died', and even if he saw her, he wouldn't believe that she was his wife because denial. Similarly, seeing and interacting with Reginald wouldn't ever trigger any of Ellie's memories. The only way that they find out about each other in any timeline is if Mari takes a blood test.
Mariposa is technically black, but she's inherited Reg's albinism and therefore looks white. She also got his gold eyes thanks to the lack of melanin. Her curly hair is genetically bright red like Ellie's, but looks vibrant pink due to the albinism.
Mari inherited Reg's personality and love of luxury, but managed to retain Ellie's loyalty, bravery, and determination.
Growing up in snowy Canada was actually a boon for Mari, because it meant that she didn't have to worry about sunburns as much as she would have in a warmer country.
Her favorite animal is the butterfly, her namesake. She also loves marigolds(This is because her name was originally going to be Marigold, but then I remembered that Ellie would not have chosen that name for her daughter).
Mari and Ellie were separated when Ellie was arrested. They only reunite in CA and GI routes, but Mari grows to fear her mother in the latter routes because Ellie slowly goes insane in them.
As for her father, Mari only meets him in TR and TK. She doesn't like him at first, but he ends up growing on her eventually.
