Copiapoa humilis
The Copiapoa species are mostly found along the coast of northern Chile, too far north to get much of the winter rainfall that occurs in the central part of the country, and sometimes getting by on nothing but the fog that rolls in off the ocean. Copiapoa humilis is one of the small-headed clustering species, showing the yellow flowers typical of the genus, but with a tinge of red at the outside. The color of the plants seen above is hard to describe - sort of a dusty purple-gray that manages to be quite inconspicuous.
