https://soundcloud.com/tonyneeks/sets/a-little-bit-of-me Denver’s Tony Neek$ created quite the buzz for himself last year with his debut project “Welcome To $un Valley.” Now to keep his momentum going, the emerging artist returns with a new project titled “A Little Bit of Me.” The 3-track EP is solely Neek$ – no features – with production from Khoazy (“Can We Ride”), I.D. 72 hour round up
Interviewed for two jobs. One part time at my climbing gym. I would be very excited about getting that job. The other I have heard back from and will be starting soon. A well paying contract job.
I saw a concert Friday. A beautiful band called A Winged Victory for the Sullen. AWVFTS is a beautiful band that makes beautiful music. The opener was a dude called Loscil . His music can be quickly described as anti-tycho, Tart where Tycho is sweet. Academic, Pushing. The performance was a very weird place. About 80 miles south of Denver, in Palmer CO. A rural arts center. Weird Rural Art Centers (WRAC) is where art lives. Not in the giant institutional art museums (IAM).
Saturday I rolled out around 6 am and drove to friends in Carbondale. A small rural town outside of Aspen. We climbed in this amazing new climbing area, all bolted, over 120 routes. The rock is clean and fresh, the routes fun and challenging. I won’t give up the secret, but will gladly take anyone there! There were easily two dozen people out climbing. We would hardly see anyone the area was so large. After we got back we went to hot springs down by the river. Rolling around in warm mud sand water is relaxing, drinking a beer, watching the moon.
Sunday we rolled out at 6 am again. We drove out past Grand Junction to Colorado National Monument. I did my first spire climb. Otto’s Route is a 4 pitch climb that goes up 400 feet. The route is only a 5.9 for the crux, a few moves to different holds. I lead the end pitch. I hope to get more efficient with leading. Trust the gear more. The route was sandstone, which was a new kind of rock for me to climb on. Afterwards we got chinese food and drove back. I watched a movie about mountaineering called Touching the Void. The story is classic lore of mountaineering. I won’t attempt to summarize it. Read at your own risk.
Photos will be coming up later today.
