I'm so happy that this blog exists omg This is truly an amazing film, and it's been difficult for me to get out my feelings about as it's old and didn't get the recognition it deserves. Anyway, I wanted to ask you what you thought of the scene when Ramses gives Moses Tzipporah as a gift and he acts all disrespectful and shames her in front of everyone, and we see how Moses looks at his mother. Her face there moved me so much, and I wanted to know what you think that she thought in that moment?
Thank you so much! To be honest, I haven’t really taken much thought into why she responded that way so I’m not really sure how this answer will form out to be.
But in their little family, I always viewed Moses as being the closest to his mother, next to Rameses. That’s probably why her disappointment even without words really pushed Moses to apologize to Tzipporah. Moses probably got his “palace pride” from Rameses and Seti and the whole environment and the way they were brought up. But, the Queen probably gave him that side that made Moses apologize to Seti and do a lot of other heartfelt genuine things while he was there. (In fact, let’s take a moment to appreciate all the women in this movie because Moses probably wouldn’t of gotten as far as he did, with the success that he did, without the emotional support, influence, and strength of his birth mother, adoptive mother, wife, and sister.)
While I’m not saying Moses wasn’t arrogant or spoiled at the beginning, I don’t think he would’ve humiliated Tzipporah if Rameses hadn’t kept going “are you going to let her speak to you that way?” and the pressure of everybody watching and his reputation and status compared to Tzipporah’s. So I think that the Queen was definitely disappointed in Moses because he was putting down somebody who could do no harm to him, and who was practically there to be his sex slave. So much like how Rameses cares deeply about Seti’s opinion, I’d imagine Moses felt the same about her’s, and she knew it.
