Tadashi Hamada Oneshot (Big Hiro 6)
Ever since you joined SFIT, you'd heard countless stories of the brave student that risked his life to save the professor. You never actually met him, and ultimately it turned out that the whole ordeal was a set up by the professor to shut down another company. When everything blew over, people still talked about the male.
At the back of your mind, you assumed he was an attention seeker. He loved to be in the spotlight. It wasn't about saving a life. To him it must have been for a few moments of fame. Why else would he run into a flaming building?
That day when you were heading to your robotics lab, you could hear a few students chatting amongst themselves.
"You're Tadashi Hamada right, we heard about what you did. You're like an actual hero man!" Awkward laughter followed the statement, and you could see one guy giving another a high five as he walked away. A younger boy walked up to the older one laughing.
"You're still a nerd." The older one laughs, and it's then that you speak. Not only were they blocking the entrance to the elevator, but it appeared your suspicions were right. He really just likes attention.
"You're an idiot." Tadashi turns, a bit shocked at the statement.
"People keep praising you for that heroic act, but was that really all it was. You ran into that building knowing you probably wouldn't come out. From where I stand, you just wanted the attention." It's said so cold, and Hiro looks pissed.
"Who do you think you're talking to!!" Before he can rush at you, Tadashi grabs him by the collar. "Sorry about that. Let's go Hiro." Tadashi turns, and Hiro pulls out of his grasp, sending you a glare right before he takes off behind Tadashi.
"He didn't even get mad."
You were expecting some kind of reaction, but you got nothing.
~~~~~
You would see him a few times that week. His brother too. From the glares it was clear that he held a grudge. You didn't care. You just went about your business.
From your lab, you worked diligently at your current project. Screwing in bolts and connecting cords, you'd been a little distracted. You had missed the spark behind you. It's only when you smell the smoke that you panic.
"No!"
Without thinking, you reach over to hit it with your hand.
"Oww!!"
You pull back your hand, grabbing the extinguisher from the wall. Moving quickly, you put out the fire, sighing in relief.
"That could have been bad." What were the odds of another fire breaking out in the building. Placing the item back, you look over, staring at the white plumpy robot at the opening of your door.
"Hello, I am Baymax, your personal healthcare companion." It waddles through the door, blinking as it looks you up and down.
"On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your pain?" It tilts its head, and you look around, then down at your slightly red palm.
"Ummm, three I guess."
"I will now do a scan. " You open your mouth to question.
"Scan complete. You have suffered first degree burns. Apply cold compress and petroleum jelly three times a day to help with pain." It reaches out, and you're surprised when it ejects a cold compress from a section in it's arm. It presses it to your hand, and you just stare.
"Are you satisfied with your care?"
"Yes, thank you. "
"You are welcome." It pats your head twice, and you smile as it turns, waddling away. You can't help it, you follow it. You really want to thank the person that came up with such a clever and helpful invention. It moves into the room, and you watch as it places it's feet into a red box, deflating. Whoever's room this is, they were obviously gone, so you sit on a chair, watching the different blueprints stuck to the board. Most of it looks like upgrades for the medical robot. You're in awe. It's programming was extraordinary. All the intricate parts, you know it must have taken quite some time to perfect this.
"Oh! Hello!" The warm greeting makes you turn, and you're about to commend the student, until you see who it is.
"You?"
He blinks, laughing a bit bashfully.
"(Y/N), I didn't expect to see you here."
You're a little shocked he knows your name. Then again you did insult him.
"You built Baymax?"
He looks a bit surprised.
"You met Baymax??"
You nod, showing him the cold pact.
"What happened, are you okay!" He moves closer inspecting your hand, and you nod, observing him. He looked generally concerned. You honestly thought he hated you.
"I'm okay, it was just a slight burn. It feels a lot better thanks to Baymax."
Tadashi looks proud.
"I'm glad. I just know that Baymax is going to do great things. He'll help a lot of people." There's a wistful look in his eyes, and it's only then that you realize the mistake you've made.
"I'm sorry I called you an idiot before." Tadashi turns, sending you a smile.
"I know it wasn't personal. I'm guessing you were angry at someone else for doing something similar," You pause, looking at him.
"How do you..know that?"
"That look on your face, I guess I've just seen it before. Hiro he..he looked at me the same way when he thought I was going to die. " You swallow, looking down at your hands.
"My dad is a cop." It's said a bit hurriedly, and Tadashi focuses his attention on you, completely invested.
"I know it's risky but he just never seems to understand how hard it is for us. There was a bank robbery and he was in the building. They'd reported three officers down, but no one could confirm from the inside I heard about it at school. I sat in the cafeteria watching that television and praying that he would make it. I felt paralyzed. That day I..I had a panic attack."
Tadashi's eyes show sympathy. "The robbers were eventually caught, and my dad did get shot but it wasn't fatal. He walked away with his life, but that could have easily gone the other way."
Tadashi's circumstance was quite the same.
"I guess when I heard all those people talking about what you did, it just brought back those feelings. But now that I know you, I guess I understand why. It's just who you are. You're just a nice guy." Your eyes are conveying something close to what Tadashi assumes is admiration. His cheeks flush, and he scratches his head awkwardly.
"I-I'm not that great."
"You're right, you did run into a burning building."
"Hey, I thought you were apologizing." He whines with a pout. You laugh.
"I'm kidding."
That brings a smile to his face. "I hope we can be friends." you hold out your hand, and Tadashi watches it.
"Do you have a boyfriend?" you pause, and gradually your face gets brighter.
"W-W-What kind of question is that!" He's pleased at the reaction. He's so used to that cool persona you seem to wear in front of everyone. This was the first time he was seeing an array of emotions. Vulnerability, and now bashfulness. "I'm curious. I feel like I should make my intentions known. I've always been interested in you. After really talking with you I'd like to get to know you better."
For a second you assume he's pulling your leg, but he looks serious. Your cheeks darken.
"You're such a weirdo." You mutter. Tadashi is still wearing a smile.
"Who blurts out stuff like that."
He laughs.
"Hiro does say sometimes I'm a little too honest, sorry about that. I just prefer to be open about certain things. I like you, and if you're already committed to someone then I'd like to respect that."
"W-What do you mean you like me? I just met you like four days ago!!"
"Are you serious? We've been in the same mechanics class for the past year, I did two projects with you." You blink. He must be joking. Surely you would have remembered that.
"I honestly...don't remember meeting you before last week." He lets out a dramatic sigh.
"That hurts (Y/N)."
"I'm sorry, I guess I'm a bit oblivious."
"My feelings are hurt." He places his hand over his heart and you roll your eyes.
"Fine, how can I make it up to you?"
He peeks an eye open.
"Let me take you out on a date," The color returns to your face. He was persistent, you would give him that.
"O-Okay. I guess it's the least I can do. "
"Great, does Saturday work for you?"
"Saturday is fine." You aren't sure how it has come to this. But hell, you weren't really complaining.
~~~
"Just remember I have a gun."
This was one of the main reasons you enjoyed living on campus. The weekends you spent with your parents your dad was like a lie detector, so of course he probed you behind your reason for dressing up.
"He's a good guy dad, besides I know self defense. If he tries anything I'll sock him in the kidney. "
"That's my girl!!"
Your mother sighs from the side, pulling your father by his shirt.
"Enjoy your date honey." You smile, bidding goodbye as you step out the door. You had agreed to meet him at the university because you wanted to do a little check on your equipment. Tadashi is already waiting outside building when you get there. He's on a moped and you can't help but find it kind of cute.
"I'll be out in a second."
"Take you time." You hurry inside to do some modifications, and pretty soon you're outside the door again. You're looking forward to seeing where he takes you. The sun is beginning to go down too.
"Ready?" You nod, and he gestures for you to get on, handing you a helmet.
"Hold on tight." It's not long before you're taking off.
~~~
When he settles at  a park, you're curious.
"You're not some kind of serial killer right. My dad's a cop." He chuckles.
"Don't worry. I promise I'm not some psycho."
"Hmmm." You follow, and its only when the petals cross you're view that you look up. Your mouth opens in amazement.
"It's beautiful.."
"I had a feeling you would like it."
Your gaze is fixated on the cheery blossom trees. It was literally the best time to have a picnic. The wind was light and cool. The light above your head gave a wonderful glow, and you could see the moon clear in the sky. The entire atmosphere was incredibly romantic. Tadashi urges you to take a seat.
"I hope you like pastries. My aunt owns a bakery, so I picked up a few things. "
The variety he sets out in front of you makes your mouth water. It was still warm too, the aroma entrapping you. "It smells amazing. "
You reach out for a scone. The second you take a bite, you press a hand to your cheek with a smile.
"Ish so goosh!"
Tadashi is smiling, himself.
"I'm glad you like it. " He doesn't really feel hungry, so he settles for watching the euphoric look on your face. It takes you a while to realize he's staring at you. Once you catch onto it, you swallow, cheeks flushing.
"You're doing it again."
"Doing what?"
You fidget.
"Staring at me."
"I can't help it, you're beautiful."
"S-Stop doing that! You're a secret player aren't you?" You eyed him suspiciously.
"Believe it or not I've never had a girlfriend. If things go well tonight, maybe that will change."
You bite the inside of your cheek, trying to read him.
"He must be lying. He's cute and smart. Plus he bakes. Not to mention he seems like a decent guy. "
So how is it that he's never had a girlfriend? There must be something wrong with him.
"How come you've never been in a relationship." He shrugs.
"No interest I guess. As long as I could remember it's always been Hiro and I. I spent a lot of time looking out for him so I sort of tuned out everything else. Now that he's older and being less of a knucklehead, I'm a lot more relaxed. What about you?"
"My dad is a cop. Guys run the second they find out." Tadashi laughs, a rich happy one, and now you're the one who's staring. The sound is like music.
"Who's the one staring now?" He smirks and you avert your gaze.
"Whatever."
Tadashi still wears that cute little smile, and the two of you continue to chat about random things. Current projects, past failures in the lab. Any and everything. When it starts to get late, Tadashi decides it's about time to call it a night. You help him pack up the small bowls.
"Let's get you back to the dorm before curfew. "
"Yeah, I'd hate to get a fine. The security already doesn't like me."
"It seems like you make a habit of making enemies."
"I just speak the truth, some people don't appreciate that."
Tadashi shakes his head.
"You're really something else."
The trip back to your dorm is nice. He'd drive you there on his moped. Before you were a bit hesitant to hold onto him too tightly, but now, you really don't have a problem. You press your head to his back, holding on tight. Tadashi glances at you for a brief second, a smile on his face.
~~~~
It takes a few minutes, Tadashi pulls up to your dorm. You hop off, handing him the extra helmet. He takes off his own helmet, hoping off the moped.
"Let me walk you up."
You nod. "Okay." You pull out your keys to open the front door, letting him in. Stepping into the elevator, you click the button. He's fairly quiet, and so are you, but it isn't awkward. For a second you look at his hand. A part of you wants to reach over and take it, but that's definitely too much for a first date. Right?
"Hey, we're here. You okay?" you blink. Tadashi has stepped out, and his hand is stopping the doors from closing. "Yeah, I'm fine." You step out, moving to your door, and Tadashi follows behind. When you get there, you turn to him.
"Well, this is me."
"I had a great time."
"So did I. You were a solid 9, definitely boyfriend material." You joke.
"Just a nine, what did I lose the point for?" He says with a grin. You swallow, shifting slightly in your spot. When you look up at him, he takes a slow breath. The look in your eyes has taken him by surprise. "Well..I haven't gotten a kiss yet. I heard that's the deciding factor in most dates."
"You..want me to kiss you?" He asks like he doesn't really believe it. You take a step forward. It's then you realize there is a little bit of a height difference. You never really noticed before, but he's a few inches taller than you. You pause.
"I mean we don't have to." you try to laugh it off, closing your eyes, about to turn and rush inside. Tadashi takes your hand, urging you to look at him. You do, heart racing. "Okay." He replies.
His eyes search yours for a few seconds, and slowly but surely he's leaning down. You reach out for his sleeve, and push onto your toes to meet him halfway. His lips press to your own and your heart is beating so quickly you're convinced it'll jump right out your chest. Tadashi is so tender. His hand wraps around your waist, pulling you in close. Your feet are off the ground momentarily, and you hold on, returning the blissful kiss. He parts after a hot minute, and you're breathing a bit heavier than before. Tadashi looks similarly flustered.
"I..I should probably get going." You nod, but he's still holding you, and your hands are still very much wrapped around his neck.
Would it be too desperate if you invited him in?
"Tadashi.."
You can't really get the words out. He groans, pressing you to the door as he kisses you again. You let out a soft squeak that is slowly replaced by a moan. The urgency of this kiss has your body reacting. His tongue slips past your lips and your mind goes blank. He really was good at this. You whimper softly, because his tongue flicks your own and your legs feel weak.
"Gosh you taste amazing." He says between breaths.
It's a miracle that you haven't altogether combusted. This guy is every definition of hot. Not only was he a decent guy, but his kiss should have been a crime in itself. You try to match pace, but you're struggling a little. It's perfectly clear who's in control. He completely dominates your mouth, to the point that you're heaving when he pulls back this time. He looks like he wants to follow you inside, more than anything. You can see it all over his face.
"I really have to go." His voice sounded strained, and you guess he's trying to be a gentleman. Something you respect and sort of expect from him. You smile, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
"I guess I made the right choice, boyfriend."
He looks at you, and you can see the wheels turning in his head as he registers the words you've said. His face lights up.
"I guess you did." He kisses your forehead, stepping back as he watches you open your door. You step inside, giving a little wave which he returns with that boyish smile.
"See you later Hamada."
He bids goodbye, watching you close the door. The second you're inside, he fists pumps.
"Heck yeah!!"
You giggle, and he coughs, cheeks red.
"I should probably work on that."
All things considered, it was a great Saturday night.
