My 20 Years of Friendship and Japan
This summer is the twentieth anniversary of my first time traveling to Japan and meeting my good friend Yuuko Koyama. In 1997 I went to Tokyo for Sophia University’s summer session. The trip changed my life in many positive ways!
Cool Japan Guide is featured in this month's Tanoyaku magazine!
Faves in Tokyo: Honey’s Bar
Here’s a photo of one of my faves in Tokyo! It’s Honey’s Bar, a chain of juice kiosks, usually found on or near train platforms. Their yummy, affordable, and interesting juice selection always makes me smile while I’m waiting for a train. You can pay with your train IC card too (such as Suica or Pasmo)!

Feature in Hiragana Times September issue
I just received the Hiragana Times September issue, which has a feature on my comics. I love the title, “Comic Book Art Unites the People of the World”. So true! Here’s a sample page of the article. Photographed here with a nice KitKat selection that my publisher sent me. :D
Tokyu Hands Discount Coupon for Foreign Passports
Here’s a nice shopping tip for tourists shopping in Japan. Tokyu Hands, a truly excellent department store with nationwide locations is offering a 5% discount card for foreign shoppers who present their passport at purchase. Once you get the discount card, you can reuse it until the expiration date written on it. Pretty cool! A major tip for traveling is to always carry your passport with you, many stores and venues in Japan offer special pricing if you show your foreign passport.
I enjoy shopping there for stationary, souvenirs, beauty products, and they also sell all kinds of novelty and household goods.
Is Jagarico the New KitKat?
Those familiar with Japan's snack scene are already aware of KitKat's numerous fun (and delicious!) special edition flavors, including most recently, Sake.
Another snack that's harder to get in the US, is Jagarico! Jagarico are potato stick snacks produced by Callbee and usually sold in a cup container. They are crunchy, salty, and crazy delicious!
