(Fact for a fact) The Listeners believe in five gods, Life, Death, Kindness, Cruelty, and Time. There’s rumored to be a sixth, but that isn’t confirmed. These gods were once Listeners, but discovered the name of the Listening(the language of creation). The Listeners do not worship their gods, but rather fear and respect them, like you might treat a frightened wolf. To be the champion of a god is to ensure that your lifespan is considerably shorter.
I love this! (And now I’m really curious about this mysterious possible sixth god...)
In The Warlord Contracts, those on the continent of Morrah believe in one primary pantheon of gods (though how they choose to worship and which other deities they add to the list varies drastically throughout the continent.)
The gods of Morrah are all of equal power and ability, but they’re differentiate by each having two, usually opposing components to their being. Some notable examples are Yabet, the deity of power and sacrifice, Algmyth, the deity of ferocity and patience, and Ignuri, the deity of discipline and rest. Most people worship all the gods equally, but some who feel strong ties to a certain god’s components will chose them as their allegiant deity.
