“You may think it was “just luck” but I call it fate and a well earned victory.”

Yes, Juni did have nothing better to do on a Saturday, because she was already doing the best possible thing. Having to do this for extra credit did take the joy out volunteering a little, but she hands down could say that this was the easiest way to boost her grades. Spending the majority of her childhood days and much of her adult life getting folk to listen to her talk about various environmental issues prepared her for this moment. Getting 20 signatures was easy-peasy.
Juni knew this wouldn't be everyone's way to spend their time, and she also knew not may people would be willing to talk either but, that's why she picked the market place. With its constant hustle and bustle of people, surely luck would be on her side. A few walked by politely declining, some even turned and walked the other direction when they saw her, but eventually, she caught the attention of a passer-by, “Hi, hello,” she said rather enthusiastically, “Do you have a minute to talk about the environment?” she asked, flashing them a smile.

Opening the shop with a yawn was a morning staple. Begrudgingly, rubbing the night’s rest away, Ethan and the other unlucky suckers that were rostered on a morning, slowly got to work in preparation for the daily trudge. Though, there was an upside to early starts, not only did he bore witness to the island waking up, its slow shuffle as it roared into the week, mornings also meant a slew of regulars, for whom Ethan had orders memorised.
One of these people was Aaron. After an awkward encounter that had yet to leave his brain, Ethan quickly caught onto his coffee order and his visits to the coffee shop, and eventually they fell into a pattern of small talk over coffee — a great ice breaker and vanquisher of awkward moments, for them anyway. A quick glance at the clock told him Aaron’s imminent arrival, making Ethan ditch the grogginess that clung on and work quickly to set up the cappuccino machine, pushing yesterday’s absence aside. It was a new day after all.
Feet shuffled in, coffee shuffled out, but Ethan had yet to spot Aaron. At first he considered himself lucky, the coffee was still in progress and he had gotten into a habit of handing the steaming cup within seconds of Aaron entrance, but as the minutes ticked by and no sign of him, a light panic crept in. “Hey, that clock is correct, right?” Ethan turned to ask his co-worker, a glance to his own wrist could’ve answered that, but Ethan didn’t trust his eyes. A nod in conformation, only made Ethan’s worry lines crease in deeper. Second day in a row...“Where is he?” A sense of deja vu washed over him as he capped the lid on the cup, same actions yesterday, hopefully not the same result — wasting coffee pained him.

The past weeks have made Roane happier that he had been since he stole lollies on the fateful that changed his life. Pushing thoughts about the imminent threat to the depths of his mind was a good decision, no matter how temporary it might have been --- it allowed him to truly live. Made him see the life he could have, and he wanted it more than anything. To go on dates with the love of his life, family trips to the beach, to actually hold and get to know his son, he was a sucker for that domestic life. A life free of crime, life had been craving since he was a child. He could have it. It wasn't a pipe dream anymore. He even had thoughts of extending his stay. The danger he had anticipated had not appeared yet, giving him much wanted time with his family. But reality was quick to remind him how foolish dreaming was. And just like that, intangible was back in his dictionary.
What was meant to be a fun picnic, turned into him checking over their shoulders at any, and every sign of movement. He hated the world.
Putting Ayden down for his nap, Roane offered Candice a small smile as he closed the door slowly, and lead them outside. “These past few weeks have been every bit wonderful, love,” he spoke, but broke off with a shake of his head, unable to find the words to say what he needs to say. “Can you read my mind, or do I have to say this?”
setting: wieners and losers, at the diagon-knockturn junction who: rita && anyone
“Listen, this place is going to fold soon,” Rita told the staff member at wieners and losers, who shrugged wordlessly in reply. “Tell your manager we can feature it once on a Saturday afternoon if you quit playing this drivel and play the WWN all-day, every day.” While the restaurant was a shithole, it was in a prime spot, right where Diagon and Knockturn met. Even with the shitty ambiance the tables were half-occupied.
Rita pulled out a cigarette, taking an opportunity to breathe. They’d been working her to the ground the last few days. Not to mention the whole Wilkes affair, which Rita wanted to do an in-depth on. But they needed a guest, and it was hard to find someone willing to talk. She looked up, watching the windows for someone, anyone, who could give her even a sliver of a story.
