on the whole, are animals considered to be beautiful / cute more likely to be protected than those who are not?
Theyâre generally referred to as âcharismatic animals,â but yes, a positive public perception of animals does generally help their conservation status a great deal. It doesnât seem to matter too much when it comes to eat them though, we still kill piglets, we shoot calves, we grind up male chicks up alive. We generally feel a bit more empathetic towards cute animals I think, but not so much that it takes precedence over our palette pleasure.
Saturday Treat. While working in the studio and prepping for the next live session which I think is going to be a dawn scene, I thought Iâd pass along some footage I took last Christmas. I am now showing it on my https://gallery.DeborahChapin.com/bigscreen this is just a gif bio link to my site and click on Bigscreen - Part of the reason I paint is to show the raw beauty of nature. When you paint you can express your emotional connection to a scene. However video shows the raw power in motion And nothing, IMO, Expresses the power of nature more than to see. Iâm an advocate for the preservation of the raw beauty of nature and the health and well-being of our oceans. #WomenMarineartist #Marineartists #pemaquidpoint #rawnature #convervation #artistswhocare #preservationofnature #deborahchapin #deborahchapinfineart (at Pemaquid Point, Maine) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMFQEmXnUSP/?igshid=tybtwhb5o267

Americans who otherwise think that any animal going extinct is a bad thing will talk about mountain lions and how they shouldnât come back and how itâs idiotic that theyâre protected because theyâre too dangerous.
The last time a mountain lion killed someone was in 2008. About 5 people die per year from snake bites in the US. 130 people per year are killed by deer (mostly because of car accidents that deer cause).
You can make excuses that thatâs because there are way, way more deer than there are mountain lions, and thatâs undoubtedly true and has an effect.
But the fact remains that deer frequently jump in front of cars. (Has anyone who drives not ever encountered deer? Because I canât imagine it unless youâve only ever driven in, say, New York City.) Mountain lions donât want to run in front of your car. In fact, they want to stay as far away from you and your cars as possible. If they show up where humans are, itâs because they have nowhere else to go, and they still donât want to hurt you unless they think youâre a threat to them.
(Also, I bet a lot of Americans who talk about wanting mountain lions to go extinct would also voice support for protecting lions or tigers.)

Italian photographer Luca Bracali, who I had the great honor of meeting during the Siena Art Photo Travel Festival and Siena International Photography Awards Contest in Siena, Italy late last month, just wrapped up his reportage of the annual polar bear migration through Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. Environmental tip of the day - keep pitcher behind sink for emptying water glasses etc to water plants later (convenient way to collect grey water - where you would normally dump it)
