Merely that I have a World Wide Web page does not give me any power, any abilities, nor any status in the real world
Clifford Stoll
When I saw this quote, the first thing that I thought about was that in today’s society, everyone has a device connected to the internet which makes everyone similar to each other. What makes you different is the information that you post and use. A person gains their status based on what they do in the real world, but in recent years, I feel like it could be based on the content that they post. Take barstool sports for instance. They made a website that meant nothing. But marketed it towards millennials/college students. Took a right wing political stance, and posted content which everyone can relate to. It's all about what you post, and how many people can relate to it that makes the person feel like they have power. If you can get people to relate to it, then you can become a web superpower and do anything. Think about the impression left on society and how different the WorldWide Web was 40 years ago.
