Chris was breathing hard after having knocked over and thrown several pieces of equipment inside his tent. He was angry, he was upset, he was emotionally distraught. Jill could tell from how he'd looked after they returned to the FOB that something was wrong, even if he tried to hide it from her. He always wore his heart on his sleeve and Jill was more intuitive and observant than most. She must have dismissed herself shortly after him and by the time she pushed open the tent flaps and stepped inside, Chris was already crumbling. He looked up at Jill, his blue eyes swimming with unshed tears and you could see his bottom lip tremble. She stepped around the objects laid strewn about to approach him. "They were just kids, Jill. They were just kids," he said, his voice shaking and cracking with emotion. Children who had their lives violently cut short right in front of his eyes before he and their team could reach them. Her words were gentle, soothing. Her arms reached for him then and his own came to encircle the brunette as he buried his face into her neck.
