He looked so surprised and confused by her words, her heart hurt with his expression. Rumple looked as though he never expected to hear her words. Belle felt a flash of anger at herself. She had treated him so horribly lately, it had almost felt like a spell but she knew it wasnāt. Between being Lacy and everything else she had lost sight of everything that was important, and she almost lost him entirely. No more, she will give him all she has and give him a reason to trust her just like she trusted him.
She held him close as she kissed him, trying to pour all the love she had into it, wanting more then anything to let him know that she was his and she was on his side first and foremost. He began to sob against her lips. She could feel him shaking. Her eyes opened and she whimpered softly before she moved to kiss his cheek and head as she wrapped her arms around him.
Belle wanted to believe in the good of people, but she couldnāt deny the darkness that existed too. It was both the dark and the light that made Rumplestiltskin the man she loved, and he has been so hurt and abused that she couldnāt just let it go unpunished. As much as she didnāt want anyone hurt, Rumple had every right to hurt them. Belle had taken so many steps back that she almost lost him. No greater good was worth losing him. They could all go to hell for what theyāve done, for all the hate and cruelty.
How can Rumple be a good man if everyone treated him like he was beneath them or a beast every single moment. Rumple was a good man in her eyes, capable of so much more and of such kindness. Belle knew because he was good to her and kind to her and she knew now that some people were not worthy of kindness and every single person that acted like Rumple was evil and out to kill them all without even trying to talk to him like the man he was. What good was there in hurting him more? In forcing him away or to help free this town filled with people that feared and hated him. No, no more will she let this town hurt him. Her heart told her that enough was enough.
Rumple needed her, and it was time that she took the stand, the only stand that mattered, besides him.
Belle sank down with him when he dropped to his knees. She hugged him close and tight. Her arms wrapped firmly around his back before her hand rose to gently stroke his hair as he sobbed and said Iām sorry over and over. āItās okay Rum, its okay, oh itās okay my love, let it out, itās ok.ā She whispered over and over as she stroked his hair and held his head against her chest letting him cry as he needed too. Belle hated seeing him cry but he had every reason to do it, to get it out and she wouldnāt let anyone take away that. He deserved so much better then this, so much more then his. Belle needed to find a way for them to escape this cursed town, so that this heartbreak and suffering could end once and for all. Damn the rest of them to hell. Belle was willing to sacrifice herself to help everyone else but not Rumple. Rumple has suffered and sacrificed so much for absolutely nothing and still everyone looked at him like he was nothing more then a beast.
He is so much more and he deserves his freedom, and more than anything he deserved some peace to just grieve. Belle would make sure now that he would have that. She was going to give him that and everything else she was capable of giving her poor Rumple.
She smiled weakly at him as he spoke. āItās okay Rum. I shouldnāt have used your dagger like I did and I am sorry that I did. You have every right to be angry and upset after all youāve been put through and me using your dagger was wrong.ā Belle apologized and gently cupped his face, wiping away his tears for him and kissing at his forehead lightly. Belle heard his last words and pressed herself the slightest bit closer. āIām sorry I canāt couldnāt find any other way through to you.. I hate the way that this town has twisted us Rumple and I am going to find us a way out, but now, for as long as you want. Iām here and Iām yours Rumple, no matter what. Light or dark I donāt give a damn, thereās only you and I love you.ā
He leaned against her, clinging to her as though letting go would kill him. He didnāt want to let go. He didnāt want to ever have to let go of Belle. That was part of why he hadnāt told her what he was doing, why heād tried to act like he wasnāt as affected as he was by Zelena and his son dying and everything else that went on. He was absolutely terrified of losing her, and honestly that was what heād thought might happen when she found his dagger and stopped him from killing Hook. But here she was, kneeling in front of him and comforting him when he really didnāt deserve it, and he found himself thankful yet again for Belle and her kindness and understanding. He didnāt deserve her. He never had. But he sure as hell needed her.
And then she was apologizing for using his dagger, and he felt his soul relax ever so slightly. Heād known she didnāt really want the level of control that the dagger gave her, but he hadnāt been entirely sure that she didnāt want at least some control over him. So hearing her apologize for taking the dagger and using it, even if she had done it to try and help him, as like a healing balm to his soul. He leaned his forehead against hers, letting out a shuttering sigh. He was still a bit tense, but so much more relaxed then heād been in the longest time. In fact, heād only been this relaxed before heād died the first time. Ever since heād been scared and tense and so very hurt. Until now. Because of Belle.
āI shouldnāt have tried to kill the pirate,ā he admitted to her, his own way of apologizing for what heād done. āI was scared and I thought it was the only way not to be anymore but I⦠Iām sorry. I should have known there was another way.ā He pulled back just a bit then, wiping at his own tears before looking at Belle in the eyes, wanting her to understand what he was about to say.
āYou⦠I⦠I havenāt felt this safe since before I died,ā he admitted to her softly. Of course he still didnāt feel entirely safe, but given that the dagger wasnāt even in his possession, the fact that he felt even remotely safe was remarkable. āI should have known that you were the answer all along. You almost always are.ā He reached up a hand, slightly trembling, to trace her cheek, focusing on the feel of her soft skin underneath his finger and letting that relax him even further.
āI was scared, and I pulled away from you,ā he muttered as he watched his own finger, unable to look her in the eyes for this part. āI shouldnāt have let it come to this. You shouldnāt have had to use the dagger just to get me to listen to you. But I⦠can I have it back now?ā he withdrew his hands to his lap, eyes moving towards the floor. It felt almost wrong to ask her for it back after the way heād been acting. He didnāt feel like he deserved the damn thing. A part of him thought she should keep it, to keep him in check. But he knew he could never feel completely safe like that. He needed it back, at least for now.
āI promise I wonāt try to hurt anyone, and Iāll stay. Iāll listen. We can talk and work things out and⦠and if you really want have a honeymoon here, like you said. I just⦠I have to do whatever you say when you have it and I just⦠Iād feel better if I could have it back. Please?ā
