All the way in the in the first season finale, back when she thinks Jasonâs âââtime machineâââ is legit, Kiera balks at abandoning the past. She started to care about the people of that time and wasnât into just abandoning them to their fate. I donât think itâs just the bomb threat, either. She had power to tinker and do good in 2012 that she doesnât in her own time. She has emotional investment in her friends there and where sheâs been living and how sheâs been living.
Jason essentially says âwe have to go back to our time right now, itâs for the best!â
and Kieraâs first response isnât to even ask more about the device Jason claims is going to get them there, itâs to protest like, âwait.... Iâd have to go right now? immediately?â about this one way ticket home. She balks at this idea even before Jason talks about the bombing in the plaza that they remember from their history. Sheâs been there 6 months, 8 months, not even a year, not really that long, but itâs much, much harder for her to think about following through on leaving than in was at the very beginning. And yes, Jasonâs machine was the creation of delusion, but that doesnât change the fact that when Kiera thought it was real, she wasnât in a hurry to use it.
S1 Kiera had had more emotional growth and a stronger sense of connection with the people around her than she does in the later seasons, and I think thatâs a shame. She had to get regressed because of plot points and because of plot tension, and I can understand that SB had certain stories he wanted to tell with the premise. But Iâll always be very protective of that S1 Kiera who was scared and didnât want to leave her son, but who had started to build an independent life for herself. The one who didnât leap at the way âhomeâ Â the moment it was offered, because maybe it wasnât really what she truly wanted after all.Â
