Legendary Flash Brand Bowens is Alive and Well and Living in Wex Photo Video
While researching Bowens speed-rings for the Rotolight Aeos 2 and Neo 3 Kickstarter article and press release, I discovered that the Bowens flash and accessories brand still exists, apparently after disappearing in 2017 then reappearing in 2020 at British retailer Wex Photo Video. I have history with Bowens, my first studio flash unit being a second-hand Bowens monobloc with umbrella and light…

(via 5 Tips for Using Continuous Lights in Your Photography)
Continuous Lighting Final
This isn’t exactly what I had in mind for this shot, and I have some other more traditional ones of car light trails taken from a bridge over a motorway, however it was really windy that night so some of the buildings in those images are a bit shaky. Unfortunately due to my position in the road, the headlights weren’t that clear in these shots and just kind of blended in with the tail lights, so I chose an image that just had tail lights going through it to make it clearer. What I like about this image is it’s a slightly more unusual composition for car light trails, and the fact that there are actually four different types of continuous lighting in the shot, namely the tail light trails, the street lights, the blue light on the bridge, and the lights in the buildings in the background. I also like the contrast of the blue light on the bridge and the red tail lights. I think a slightly elevated position would’ve done it more justice though, as I would then be able to capture both head and tail lights clearly, as well as everything else in the shot. I used the Bulb setting so I had complete control of the shutter speed, and a small aperture of f/22, which is what creates the star burst effect on the street lights. Overall I’m relatively happy with this shot but I know I could do better so I’ll just have to try it again on a less windy evening!
