Steve/ continue...
Steve stretches. “It’s getting late, I should probably get going,” he says. “Can I help you clean up?”
You stand up. “No, I’ve got it,” you assure him.
He stands and you walk him to the door. “I had a nice time,” he says. “I really like spending time with you.”
“Me too Steve,” you agree.
He leans down and his lips touch on yours softly. It’s a chaste kiss, but when he pulls back, your lips tingle a little. “When can I see you again?”
“That’s up to you,” you say. “My timetable is much more open than yours.”
“Friday?” He asks.
You nod. “That sounds perfect.”
“This time I’ll set up the date. I’ll pick you up here at seven,” he says. “If something comes up I’ll let you know.”
“Thank you,” you say. “I’ll text you too. Just to see how things are going.”
Steve smiles and gives you a small nod. “I’d like that.”
You watch him go and when he disappears down the stairs you close the door. It was far too soon for Steve Rogers to have your heart, but you think maybe he might have it.
Dating Steve Rogers isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it. He’s pulled out on missions regularly. He’s slow to move. There are times when you’re out that he was just approached again and again and again by fans or people spoiling for a fight. The paparazzi sometimes get wind of your date and they show up and take photos of you both or hound him with questions.
Yet, to counter that, he’s romantic and courteous. He cares about your input and your opinions on things. He’s intelligent and easy to talk to. He brings out the best in you and the people around him. He always makes a date special, even if they’re just at home he brings you flowers to brighten your apartment or makes sure that he’s ordered your favorite food.
He starts planning the dates more too. He takes you out to dinner, and to the movies. The two of you go out of the city for a hike and a picnic. He takes you to the top of Stark Tower to see the view and to jazz clubs for the music.
You’re slowly realizing that you’re falling in love with him. It’s a scary realization that you love Captain America. A life with him won’t be easy, even when it was good. He was an easy person to love, even when he wasn’t being easy to like.
He’s taking you out tonight. He has told you to dress to dance, which is a first for the two of you. You aren’t sure exactly what kind of dancing Steve has in mind exactly, but the safe bet is he isn’t going to take you to a rave. So you put on a 50s style halter dress and shoes you know won’t kill your feet if you’re on them for an extended period and wait for Steve to pick you up.
He arrives exactly on time with flowers, and wearing a black suit with a cornflower blue tie. The two of you walk arm in arm to a swing club in the city. It’s not a short walk but it’s nice enough. No one seems to recognize him dressed up the way he is, and you enjoy the fact you have time to just be with him in the city that he loves so much.
The club is small and very red. The walls paneled in timber, stained red, and the chairs all upholstered with red velvet. Each table has a candle in a red glass holder that alters the light. A jazz band plays soft jazz on a stage in the middle of the room, while everyone in the room enjoys their meals. You’re led to a table in the corner and given your menus when you take a seat.
“This place is cute,” you say.
“I’ve never been before, but I wanted to take you dancing and the reviews were good,” Steve says. “I like it. It’s not quite what I remember from back in the day, but it’s close.”
“Feeling nostalgic, old man?” You tease playfully.
He smiles and hides his face behind his menu, shaking his head a little. “Not exactly. I just didn’t do this back then. It’s one of my regrets. I guess I’m trying to get one of the things I didn’t back then.”
You reach over and take his hand. “I am so flattered that you would choose to do that with me.”
“Well, I -” he pauses and looks back over at his menu at you. “I really care about you. I couldn’t think of anyone else I’d rather do this with.”
Your heart skips a beat and despite the fact he is often so uncomfortable with public displays of affection, you lean over and kiss him gently. “I’m really happy I’m here,” you say. “So… all of these meals sound enormous. You want to split an entree and a salad?”
“That sounds perfect,” he agrees.
You take a little while to agree on something you will both enjoy, but not too long. The only real issue is that Steve feels bad about you sharing and keeps trying to say he’ll have whatever you want, but you want him to be happy with the choice too.
When the waiter leaves, Steve stands up. “Would you like this dance?”
You can’t help but giggle as you stand and join Steve on the dance floor. The song is a slow one, and he holds one of your hands, while he rests the other on your hip. “I just want to say,” he says, as the two of you start to slowly spin around the dance floor. “I really appreciate you being so patient with me. I know I’m stuck in my time.”
“I’m not sure it’s that,” you say. “Even today there are people who want to go slow for all kinds of reasons. Some people aren’t ever interested in having sex.”
He smiles and nods. “Still, I appreciate your patience. In the past when I’ve tried to date, they tried to push things straight to the bedroom. I wanted to tell you, I think I’m ready. But I wanted to make it special for us. I was thinking we could get a cottage or bed and breakfast in Vermont? Or I could get a nice hotel in the city? But if you think I’m being too old-fashioned…?”
Agree to the trip to Vermont. Fall foliage sounds romantic.
Doing something special is a lot of pressure, just at home will be fine.
Admit to Steve that you’re waiting for marriage.
Admit to Steve you aren’t interested in sex
